I really don't like Monte - or to be honest, I really don't know Monte that well. Will give it a shot a though.

It's like Germany, but with less margin for error and shorter lines of sight. Route de Turini is one of the longest stages, and it gets very tricky at the Col because the stages are icy.

Yeah, the last (or first, depending on layout) two or three sectors are damn tricky. Although I did enjoy getting the Sierra sideways while going full retard on the snowy and icy parts while managing not to mess up - unlike in the first few sectors (adding atleast 4-5 seconds to my time). Will probably get pushed outside of Top 50 when the event is over. Currently sitting comfortably within the top 30.

Try it in a 2010s car; you can power through anything short of a hairpin to the point where you will need the pace note calls earlier to give you enough time to process them before you're in the corner.

So I managed mid tier for both the Pikes Peak and Greece dailies much to my surprise and am currently top tier for the Cossie at Monte daily.

Must be getting a bit better or something, but the Cossie was awesome around Monte, liked it much more than the M3.

I'm always surprised when I wind up in the top tier, as I am never satisfied with my runs - I hit the stone wall on the exit of a hairpin or two in the Sierra Cosworth - and I'm using a controller. I scored a top tier result on the full Pike's Peak the other day despite several spins, off-track excursions and adventures in examining the finer details of trees.

Has anyone else notice that Daily1 is easy to top-tier, but Daily2 seems much more stringent? Also, Daily1 is usually a non-garage event, while Daily2 is usually only available if you own the car. I believe the two dailies are purposely set up this way, and that the Daily2 is harder to top-tier because that's the way Codies set it up.

Four new events today:

The Dirt Daily Live is a 1995 Subaru Impreza on Pant Mawr Reverse (ugh). There is also a wager event that I haven't checked out.

The first of the new Weekly events is a rally in Monte Carlo for F2 Kit Cars; the second is a rally in Baumholder for R4 cars.

I like the sound of that Daily. I've basically made Pant Mawr Reverse into my test track :D

But man, CM really seems to love the F2 Kit Cars.

That's the best description of the Mini I have ever seen. It's so accurate as well.
That's possibly because it's a pre-shrunk Range Rover and really shouldn't have the word 'mini' anywhere near its name.

Aargh, I just totalled my F2 in the monthly event on the first Monte Carlo stage, thus ending my attempt after just seven stages - I might give this weekly one a short break before attempting it again.

I have often wondered if the decision to enter was driven more by nostalgia than anything else.

I have found that slow and steady works best for the monthly events.

Agreed, and I think that's how I am able to get into the top tier so often as most seem to crash and burn - I wasn't actually travelling very fast at the time - I just made the mistake of thinking I was mounting a low embankment of ploughed snow and it'd be easier to jink back onto the track than brake full on, when it turned out to be a low bridge parapet instead...too late.

Key to being top tier on PS4 seems to be just putting together a clean run. So far I've consistently finished top tier each time and I wouldn't say I'm mighty fast.

I haven't touched any weekly events or monthly events yet, might do some tonight :)

Monthly events are very long - the current one is twenty-four stages (only eighteen are currently available) from four rallies. It will take about half an hour to get through each one.

Sounds like a more demanding style of event given you can't restart. Really looking forward to that.

Each set of six stages amounts to about sixty competitive kilometres (except for Finland, where all of the stages are longer than average), and you get the full range of weather conditions. Flying through the Welsh countryside at night in the driving rain behind the wheel of an F2 Kit Car is madness.

Pike's Peak (full) in an Audi Sport quattro S1
What a remarkably poor daily. Just barely managed to crack into the top 300. As long as I get my trophy for getting into the top tier, I'll be happy.

Some of the crowd placements throughout the Pikes Peak course are very questionable though. The grip levels felt very...odd too, basically an Off and On switch. Sent me of the course a couple of times and ended up driving like a grandma' as a result.

Today was the first time I completed PP without coming off on my favourite three corners up near the peak. As I mentioned elesewhere, doing the Swedish stage in a Focus RS was a lot of fun after the gritted teeth run in RWD cars.

Seriously @Brend the monthly and weekly are your sort of thing.

I love doing the challenges and usually finish in the top third of Tier 1 but the rankings don't work on PS4 and I really want to know my finishing position.

The run in Sweden with the Ford Focus RS Rally was fun in a scary way. Those snow-banks are a nightmare!

Pikes Peak with the Audi S1 Quattro was nice but you get just a tiny bit confident and that mountain bites hard. My second run is always significantly quicker.

Be warned, damage carries across all stages, so you don't get a free repair when you move from one location to another. Adds an extra element of care to the mix.

Oh and don't drive off a mountain side on the Monte as a couple of us have, car ends up unrepairable and your monthly is over.

The weekly and monthly challenges really are a great balance of risk vs reward, how fast do you dare push it.

That Quattro felt good when I drove it yesterday, but even after doing what felt like a good run (9:18) I was still almost 10 seconds slower than my PB in the 405.
