dashboard change?

Hi, this is my first post and I would to like to say that Im here to discuss the dashboard for the game.

Not the cock-pit view dashboard of cars but the digital one.

Do you think they should change it?

because it's pretty old, GT4 old.

It's pretty easy job, I could bring a better dashboard from photoshop in a matter of days and maybe less.

it's GT5 and we need new interface for everything.

what say you ?

So what, it looks cool to me. Maybe you should make a poll on this.

I think the HUD looks just fine as it is; it is visually pleasing and functional at the same time. What more could you want? ;)

It's perfect, the way it is I think..
Well maybe not perfect, because nothing is,
but I couldn't think of something how to make it better.

With the amount of time this has been in developemnt, I would expect that dated dash view to be replaced with a unique version for each car that mirrors as best it can, the dash in the car being driven. So, if it's analogue, you get analogue dials, if it's digital, you get digital, all styled accordingly.

TDU is a good example of that.
Would be nice to see it in GT5. I'm happy either way.

I think a system like TDU, PGR4 or NFS:Shift would be perfect, in that they use the actual cars dial setup, and gives each car its character and individuality if you're not using cockpit view. Choosing different cars and seeing how each cars dials work is a pretty neat feature as I appreciate that kind of detail. It takes a it more work but it makes sense and attention to detail is PD's trademark.

I would agree with that. If it's not possible though, something elegant and simple. Speed, revs, gear, tyre condition is all you need.

Nothing should be changed. If it aint broke, don't fix it. Goodbye.

Bit redundant considering there are extremely detailed cockpits in there already.

I think it looks good. I'd rather them give us an option to turn it off than give us a new one.

it should just be possible to arrange the hud as u like it.
Do u need a g-meter? Yes? cool, then add it. u want the g-meter in top left? Fine, then put it there.
u know?
cant imagine that this would be hard to implement and would obviously fit to anybodys likes and dislikes..

Whilst that would be good - I also think it could be confusing...

The HUD is the same for every car - so you know where everything is without thinking about it - and without really looking...

UI's try to maintain consistency - so to have each one different would break that...

Really we need to be asking the question - is the HUD a UI - or part of the car... if the former - then it's consistency is key... if the later - then accuracy to it's real life counterpart is key...

Eh, I think I prefer GT's standard interface.

More options would be nice, but different graphics for each car? No thanks... most of them would be quickly made, and tacky-looking like the ones you've showed from Shift and PGR4

I don't mind the existing (GT5:P) dash/hud, it's fairly intrusive and style wise it's nice and simple. What i'd like to see is the option of turning on and off various aspects of it. I'm not bothered by g-meters or gear change indicators. If i've got a digital tachometer then i don't require a analogue one too. I'd also like the options to show more than just the difference in time between me and first place or just the driver in front of me. I'd like to see the time difference between all the competitors in front and behind of me too. I know everyone likes and dislikes different elements of the HUD, so why not give us the option to choose what we do and don't want and maybe where they are placed too?

Doesn't the Aston DB9's tach go backwards? Or is that the speedo?

Either way, no. What we've got is good enough (except for the cars that can go over 320km/h of course, I remember doing the Le Mans race in GT4 and my Bentley was literally off the speedo).

The GT series is known for something all other racing series (apart from the gmotor-based PS sims of course) lack; racing cars.

You know the F2007 in GT5P? Interior cam: great!

Exterior cam with numbers blurring by and red yellow and white lights spasming onto the screen: fail.
Exterior cam with the sets of red green and blue LED lights and no engine speed indicator (as per many open-wheel race cars) = fail (heck, many only have 3, 5 or 7 LEDs which light up in a row, and that would make a **** tacho for exterior cam).

Prefer the PGR method (i.e. same dials but they have different styling) over the NFSS ones which are non standardised...

I'd rather see the HUD tailored to each car, with the gauges done in the same style as the real thing.

Given they will have already modelled them for the cockpit view I guess it wouldnt be hard to add...

The HUD is great the way it is. No point in changing it. Wow the dial has a different logo and style for each car... tacky if you ask me. GT HUD is simple, purposeful.

It's good the way it is. It always can be made better, but I wouldn't wan't it to become a cheesy mess :)

Not so. Getting something like a tach to behave as part of the car model is very different to getting a part of the HUD (it's a 2d thing that's locked onto the screen) to work. Also, the fact is that you'd have to 'fake' the shadows for the HUD version, because the dash wouldn't be there, nor would the 3d detail around the tacho itself.

Another problem would be lighting; should it light up while driving in darker situations?
