I bought GT5 on December 12th, 2011; 2 months after I got my first PS3. I was absolutely blown away by it. This was post spec 2.0, by the way, and I enjoyed almost everything about it. The menus were clunky and the music was awful, but not every game can be perfect, right?

Almost 2 years to the date, I got GT6 on release day- only the 2nd game I've done so. The pre-order bonus was too good to pass up, and in mid-August I ordered it from gamestop. Features came rolling out, trailers were mesmerizing, and I could really say GTPlanet was my internet home. I've been truly excited by the game since when Vision GT was announced, and anxious since November. And then copies were "leaked" by middle-eastern game stores- I was staying up almost all night.

I picked up the game today yesterday at 11:13 AM CST, drove home, let the game do its updates, and was able to do one race before I had to go watch a movie for my history class, which just so happened to take 3 long hours. In that first race, I could see the things that changed, hear the things that had changed, and probably most importantly, felt what had changed. And I was only in a 110 HP Honda Fit at Autumn Ring... mini. Needless to say, that was the longest 3 hours I'd experienced in my life. I get back home, put in the 15th Anniversary code, and updated my racing suit. I did 2 more races, a coffee break and a Goodwood event, and bought an El Camino in Nantucket Blue... technically my first car that I bought since the Fit was a hand-me-down. Then I explored the customization options... I put 19 inch American Racing rims on it and set off to Willow Springs. It wasn't a very strategic idea to buy a 2-speed 1967 muscle car, but DAMN it actually felt good AND sounded good. A couple races later, I bought a fully customizable suspension and dropped it about 1.8 inches, and went to photomode. Sydney's City of Arts and Sciences was just incredible.

I expected "professional" reviews to be about 81/100, give or take 4. At the time I took the pictures, I was sitting at a 95/100, personally. I guess it was time to go back to racing.

I finished up Novice completely, and golded all the licenses on the first try- not exactly what I was expecting, but i'll take it. I got 2 cars out of it, and a whole bunch of new races...I only had to do 7 of them to move on to the next series. Why? I ended up doing 5 full series and the coffee breaks, and golded all the licenses... again. Sometime during those races, I bought a 2010 Subaru WRX STI, and the El Camino has been given a temporary break.

At the end of National B, I had raced on quite a bit of the new tracks and new events- 5 minute races are awesome. I had never heard of Brands hatch before, and now it is possibly my most favorite track. Matterhorn is scary. Driving on the moon is easier than I expected. At this point, credits weren't too hard to get... I could live with it. I moved on to National A, fired up the Mercedes Vision GT seasonal at Matterhorn and missed the gold by .09 seconds. Didn't feel like doing it again, so I made an online room and told my only friend (that was online) to join me. He was still confused as to how to progress to the next license...so I had to end up wait another 15 minutes or so while I helped him. I set up a 5-lap American-car-only night race at Daytona. I was in a El Camino, he was in his 4-speed Nova. Another guy joined and was in the 15th Anniversary Tesla... Luckily, my car topped at 153, Nova at 148, and the tesla at 132. Finished the race, and... wait, what? Nobody got paid- anything. I played with the settings, made it 2 laps, and the stranger left. We finished the race, and... 278 CREDITS!? We went to Route X in the MB VGT car for 1 lap, and I got 628 credits. Needless to say, we both went back to A-spec. We were both pissed. 10,000 for a seasonal and 628 credits for an online race? Not doing that for a while...

Did a few National-A races in my Subaru, really noticed how much the AI improved- They pushed me almost into the wall, spun me out thrice in 1 race, and I was still able to win. Two of them were HOT on my tail, 4 of them about 5 seconds back, the other 3 were about 10 seconds back. The AI is great when you're around them, but if they're ahead of you their engine loses 20% of its power? Whatever... tried to gold the IB license, just to see what all was available in IB. I realized I'm awful at anything with cones, even after 11 tries I couldn't get within .2 seconds of gold. definitely not PD's fault, I know what I need to get better at. All I could muster was 3/5 golds, stopped trying for now. Did the 10 minute races, looked at the time and remember I promised I'd write my personal day-1 review at midnight (it's 12:54 after writing all of the above).

In short(er) terms, the game has without a doubt improved. I definitely prefer the stars method over XP, and I like how most things from GT4 are back...excluding the UCD. I hate how everything is integrated now. Coffee Breaks are fun, and I like how licenses actually matter now, even if they are easier. They said the game wouldn't be harder to make credits in... but all the tuning parts cost more. The payouts are less. iB races only net you 25k for the most part! There are much less prize cars. A lot of the features nobody could wait for won't be in the game for another 2 months, but that really doesn't matter. 2 month delay for the game= everyone complains. 2 month delay for 3 features=everyone complains. PD promised better customization and sounds, and they delivered. Though it's not ideal, there is much better customization compared to GT5, and most of the sounds I've heard are better- including tire screeching. There's no doubt menus load faster, but starting a race... not so much.
As of 350 miles driven, 4.5 total hours of drive time, 32/36 wins, I have to give GT6 a 78/100 for now. Most of you guys see me defending the hell out of PD, and this was a completely unbiased review based on my personal preferences. I can't wait for the GPS Logger to come, better online payouts, AI that doesn't quit 1/2 way through, but at the same time, I hope that i'll be surprised when I put in some more time and see what's in store with iA and S. I will continue to support GT and PD as long as they offer me what I'm interested in, and GT6 definitely delivered, however they without a doubt lied when they said credits wouldn't be hard to come by.

I wish the AI was more of a challenge, I am similar stats to you and easily winning every race gets a bit boring!

game is pure garbage. apparently PDI has taken a page from EA sports in thinking people will buy credits to in turn get more cars. you will be here forever trying to grind to get any decent high end cars. what a joke, i will be returning this garbage in the morning

I disagree with that. Though it is harder to get credits, they don't stuff it down your throat like other games. No popups saying "buy credits", just a small tab that says "GT Store"

I may be alone here (and I don't have gt6 yet btw) but I like the idea of money being a little harder to come by. It gives the cars more value like IRL. when I see a guy in a Mclaren F1, I'll think "wow that guy worked hard for that ride, he must really love it!" Or he's a complete idiot who paid $15!
(Who will have less racing experience and be powerless against my superior racing intellect).
Then again I've always been of the belief that it's better to have absolute, intimate knowledge of say 5-10 cars on the track, than to be "meh" on 120 cars!
