why waste the money
O.K the next race is the Daytona 500 and I know that there is alot of you out there that will say"who cares?".To me,a true race fan dosn't care what kind of race is on.They just sit back and enjoy the event in all it's glory.just think, cars going at 200 mph,in the draft, door handle to door handle. You just got to love this sport called RACING.What do you think? Will you watch?
Lets keep it clean, this form is for all to voice thier feelings.

The Rolex 24 is merely a precursor to bigtime racing gearing up in America. Even though there is the Snowball Derby (only thing I like about that race is how the stock cars are styled), the Daytona 500 is a bigtime event in America. I'd still wait for Sebring, but this still remains a good race for a true American racing fan to enjoy. Of course, I try to follow the enthusiast route, meaning I'll like it, but be interested in bigger and better events. To make a bold prediction, I think Chevrolet will win. Which one? Either something from Hendrick Motorsports or D.E.I. I don't really see an upset happening with someone beating the bigtime Chevy programs at this race. Of course, if I wanted an upset, I'd see Texas Tech beating Kansas in double overtime this past Valentine's Day. Sorry for the cheap plug, of course! :D

Well... this past weekend was so sad I actually had the qualifing race on, the best part is when they interviewed the roush guy after he got out of his blown engine nascrap and he said "oh, yeah there a great shot and they make great engines will be ready for the Daytona 500."

Can you get an idea what I think and if I'll watch? :dopey:

I always watch. I'm not a big nascar fan but i really enjoy this race. It is amazing racing, and to be mid pack, three wide on a high bank at close to 200MPH has got be a little nerve racking! Anyway roundy round is not my first choice but this is a amazing race period. I can't wait for the bikes to hit it this year!

Kart Racer, you're in Canada. here in America, we hae the Daytona 500 as the Super Bowl of stock car racing. What would be the equivalent of the Daytona 500 in Canada, if there is one as prestigious as this race here in the States?

I'll be watching Daytona this weekend and hoping that a Charger finds its way to victory lane. There's just something uncommonly odd about the fact that Bill Davis Racing is the only Dodge team to find victory at Daytona since the Mopar return.

I guess the biggest racing evet up here is the F1 race. The ALMS has made a big impact here also ans runs a close second. But for all the oval fans,Daytona is it.

Well, Kart_Racer, I was thinking along the lines of CASCAR, but yeah. Big race.

I questioned Jeff Gordon for going to the outside to pass Tony Stewart, but in the end, Jeff Gordon's DuPont Chevy got to Victory Lane. You know the odd thing about it? I was drinking a 24 fl oz. bottle of PepsiSI (the Pepsi with more taste to it), and while J. Gordon was going to celebrate with his own bottle of Pepsi, I air-toasted for his victory. Weird, huh?

Anyhow, the Daytona 500 is over, the Big One happened, and now we can all get Speed Channel to stop boring us with Daytona coverage.

Yup, Jeff Gordon the one I root for won. This was a great race! It's just too bad I missed the winning pass. :grumpy:

I was extremely disapointed with the outcome of the race. Not only did my guy, Stewart, lead the majority of the laps, but he also got passed by Earnhart Jr. within the last 20 and then Johnson blocked him for the remainder. The only reason that Stewart didn't make a top 3 finish was because of Johnson (Gordon's teammate) was blocking the pack and slowing down. If you ask me, that's a huge violation of NASCAR regulations. So, Johnson had it coming to him.

Be ready for the next installment on SpeedTV "NASCAR Nation" which is taking the place of other programming weeknights at 8pm e.t. After all NASCAR does own SpeedTV so you can't blame their biased way of promoting the sport further to increase their revenue :grumpy: What really sucks is the demotion of Wind Tunnel to a Sunday Night only show for just two hours. I for one am dissapointed considering come April I will be racing in southern Illinois every other sunday night along with other people across the country who compete and/or go to local tracks for their viewing pleasure. Anyone catch last night's episode, some great call's and viewpoint's shared (i.e. Robin Miller's prescence)

Not that every fan isn't biased in their own way, myself included. Jimmy was merely trying to keep Tony behind him and in doing so lost a lot of momentum in the process. Tony was underneath him a fair bit and Jimmy choped down on him at the very end, though. Costing both a number of positions. That's not to say Tony has been that clean of a driver lately either.

BTW: Anyone notice the 'audience' chime in when Jr. made the pass on Gordon, yet the rest of the race you could only hear the announcers?!

The only reason that Gordon even won is because of that push and that major violation bu Johnson. If you ask me Gordan is a punk  j/k just mad because my racer, Jr. didn't win.

Johnson didn't block anything. How can Johnson block three different rows of cars, especially when he's only in front of the outside one.

If you think Johnson was intentionally holding back the field, then you don't know restrictor plate racing. 👎

It was a great race.no one did anything wrong, they did just what anyone would have done if it was the other way.I was rooting for Waltrip but alas, one blown motor. :grumpy:

I did what i do every year. I watch the start and about 20 laps, and turn it off. Then about 4:00 turn it back on and watch the finish. :) They had some nice rubbing at the end. :scared:

yay~!! Gordon won!!

Ahem.... Anyways I found it interesting that the announcers missed Gordon pass and become the lead... If they stopped babbling about other crap they wouldn't have missed it... (j/k)

You can't be serious. Let's see, Johnson was in the front of the high-outside lane of traffic. Since the inside lane of traffic was bumper-to-bumper, there was basically no where to go except through his car (which would be rule violation.). So, what does he do? Slow up traffic to help out his teammate in the other lane of traffic. Thus, he caused a majority of racers to slow down on the outside lane. If you can't figure that out, then you're dumber than you look.

Which is what Stewart did. Hello, drafting works because the car behind the lead car goes faster. The reason they don't all cram into one another is because they drag their brakes to keep them on around the average speed. Stewart clearly didn't let up on Johnson and therefore ran into the back of him. Johnson can't go faster.

If he slowed down, it'd be noticeable. His lane was going slower, thus Stewart was being stubborn and trying to ram people out of his way. Johnson was not at fault at all.

If Johnson was holding up the field, he wouldn't have finished 5th

Jeff Gordon can surely be overrated to some people. I still respect his racing ability and his overall racing style. So two of my claims were correct from one of my past posts. I predicted that Chevrolet would win the Daytona 500- I was right. I predicted that Hendrick Motorsports or DEI would win- I was right (Jeff Gordon of Hendrick Motorsports). The only bigtime oval race I'm looking forward to next is the Indianapolis 500.

Anyhow, it was a great race event regardless. I can go on record saying that you don't have to like or know about NASCAR to know what this race is about. It was a great effort for all the 43 drivers to make the big show. It's been called the "Super Bowl" of racing. Now I'm a big football fan for both college and pros, and this race is surely like the Super Bowl. If you want me to use some figurative language, this race was more like a football game with a score so close that only a field goal can decide the game. Busch wanted to win. Dale Jr. wanted to win two straight 500s. Stewart wanted to win. Everyone wants to win. But in the end, what's said is said. Jeff Gordon won the big race this year, and may I wish him all the luck in the world in becoming a 5-Time Champion as a J. Gordon fan.

It was great to see Gordon and Hendrick Motorsports win at Daytona especially considering the tragedy last year.
I think some drivers need to learn a bit of common-sense. With all those pit crews around, how can a car get turned around in pitlane and not get some sort of penalty?

I don't remember but was Jeff Gordon hated because he cheated a long time ago?
No,he was hatted because he was so young and did so well.there is a lot of want a be racers that just can't stand that.

Oh damn... shucks... I missed it. Fell asleep for most of the day.
You missed some great action. The next race I'm looking forward to is the start of the F1 season, then the ALMS. 👍

He deserved it in my opinion... He tried an outside pass several times and fell back a couple times because of that... He took that risk one last time and it finally worked... Anyways its cool how there were two lead changes back to back on those final laps...

Maybe its just me, but your first sentance doesn't make any sense. How did Stewart block traffic, there was always room to the side of him, as he lead the pack.

Now, if you can't notice the highline of traffic reducing speed drastically, like most anyone can, then I can't continue this conversation. Stewart wasn't trying to ram people out of his way, just Johnson for performing such a rediculously rude move.

Johnson let 3 people pass, that would definitely sit as a holdback for only 2 laps.

I meant Johnson.

They didn't reduce speed drastically. As you said he was passed by only 3 cars. If he reduced speed drastically, he would have been passed by everyone and their cousin for more then 2 laps. Cars have gone from 1st to 19th in one lap, so losing 3 positions is hardly drastic. You need to learn a thing or two about drafting.

I haven't seen anyone post any ludacris statement about Johnson slowing down intentionally.

Stewart was pissed that he lost the race, he decided to take out his frustration on the guy who was in front of him.
