Long before I joined the GT Planet community, I was a member of another forum called The Presidian. It's long since gone, but one of my favourite things about it was a semi-regular creative writing competition where users wrote a short story of some kind in keeping with a particular theme (ie, a cliffhanger ending, incorporating certain pre-determined items, and my personal favourite, a musical). Given that the Race Reports subforum has a small following, I thought it might be about time to experiment with something similar. And so, I'm opening the inaugural round of ...

DEADLINE MIDNIGHT SATURDAY

The concept of DMS is pretty straight forward: every week (or maybe two depending on how long it takes), a new round will be opened. Everyone who wishes to enter will write up a race report and submit it in this thread. The deadline will be 11:59pm (GMT) on Saturday night. The reports will be judged on Sunday, and a winner announced. The winner will then get to choose the theme of the next round of DMS and it starts all over again (the winner will be free to enter, but cannot pick their own entry as the best). The theme can be anything you like - it could be you narrating a hot lap of the Top Gear Test Track, or an interview between a racing driver and a magazine, or a story about a driver and what he does to prepare himself for a big race. As you can see, it's modelled on the Photomode and WRS competitions, and it's only limited by your imagination.

The objective of DMS is to become a better writer. Creative writing is one of my favourite things in the world (I've been telling stories since I was old enough to understand what a story was and I've won a few competitions), and I can see a lot of potential in some of the people here - but if it weren't for forums like The Presidian, I never would have gotten better at what I do. Therefore, DMS is designed to help you become better writers, and if the idea takes, I'll speak to Jordan about possibly getting a dedicated sub-forum under Race Reports for the competition. But this isn't going to work without you. If there aren't any entries, then there is no contest. So I'm going to open up the floor to the first round.
