If anyone listens to rock music, Jon Lord was the keyboardist for the band Deep Purple, who's arguably most famous song is Smoke on the Water. He also played with the band Whitesnake.

Sources say he passed of a pulmonary embolism after a long battle with pancreatic cancer

He died at 71 today, surrended by his loving family.

Jon Lord was a founder member of Deep Purple and he and Richie Blackmore were the heart and soul of the band throughout their many line-up changes during their most productive years... a true legend of the genre, he'll be sadly missed and warmly remembered for his immense contribution to rock music over many years.

RIP Jon Lord.

That's what that man was all about. He was amazing. Higway Star is just as good. So sad to hear of his passing. RIP :(

RIP!

For years, I've known this band just for that Smoke on the Water song. I recently found out that song "Hush" was by them(heard it on the radio today!), and I started liking this band a bit. Good band.

For the man that showed the world that an organ can totally fit in a hard rock band.

I am of a certain age and in my youth Deep Purple were, and have always remained as, one of my favourite classic rock bands and Jon Lord's playing added greatly to the band's unique sound.

RIP Jon.
