Delta 1086 Skids Off Runway.

I wasn't there...too icy for me to drive to work today. But I photographed the exact plane back in January at ATL:

Delta N909DL: McDonnell Douglas MD88 by formulanone, on Flickr

Given that this airplane is well over 25 years old, it's probably going to be stored for parts...Delta has another 100+ MadDogs that can use the spares.

Yeah, one of those "that could have been me" moments, since I usually land between 10am-12pm and regularly fly Delta to the tune of 120+ segments a year. On the other hand, I rarely fly on Thursdays (maybe once a year).

Note CNN's error with the US Air flight from 2009. It originated from KLGA, not KCLT.

It was headed to Charlotte, I believe.

Wonder how heavily edited the ubiquitous displays of CNN at Hartsfield-Jackson will become over the next few days?

I was about to say the same, as the weekend before I went up to Pittsburgh. I tried to find that aircraft's route history on flightaware, but there site was down.

Funny you mention the CNN displays too. I doubt that article has been changed though.

I flew on N909DL twice before, airframes.org shows it as built in 1987 - it was probably one the first few MD88s to be delivered. A few of the early ones have been in storage, from the production lists I've seen.

I'm on some Super 80/90 variant at least twice a week...They're quiet (unless you're in the last four rows) and putting the wings further back is great for aerial photography. A pity their range is about 2500 miles before needing to refuel.

I took quite a few shots on my last trip up and down to Pittsburgh, which was an 88. Some shots are on my Flickr.

After doing a bit of some searching I too probably have flown on it at one time. It seems like it did the usual ATL-PIT-ATL a few times... I know that there are a few planes that fly that exclusively...
