Hey guys, did a search and didn't really find much info on this.

I am still using my driving force ex I obtained back in GT4 days and have noticed a major issue with it in the GT5 timetrial.

When you come to really tight corners and do a full lock turn, you don't actually get full lock in the game, ie it doesnt turn as much as it should. This makes it hard to get around the S bend corners.

Has anybody else experienced this, and is there a work around, other than to get a 900 degree wheel?

Luke

OK, so I'll reply to my own thread.

To improve the situation of using 200 degree wheels, I put it into 'Simulation" mode in the settings. It seems to allow you to turn sharper, I made instant time improvements in the stock car, topping out at 0.3s improvement withing an hour.

Changing to simulation had the effect of reducing the feedback from the wheel.
So I also turned the FFB from 5 to 9 to give it more feel.

Hope this helps anyone still using a 200 degree wheel out there.

I had a DFEX wheel until last month I bought a G27. After giving the time trial a good few days work on the DFEX I was about P50 in the UK. A couple of hours after unboxing the G27 I had knocked nearly half a second off the total time and I continued to improve into the UK top 20. I'm still getting used to 900 degree steering but it is so much quicker than 200 so I just wanted to let you know my experience of the improvements.

Just as a minor example, in the stock car I am consistently 0.5-0.75mph faster over the start finish line because you can blend out the steering at the end of the banking much nicer. If you have the chance to get a higher degree steering level I highly recommend it!

Yep, think I'll be buying the old driving force pro this afternoon after work.
At least it has 900 degrees and I have used one before, so know its heaps better than my DFEX.

Can get it new in box sealed for $100 AUD.

Just don't have the money for a g25/27 and don't really think paying $150 for a DFGT is worth an extra $50.

Plus i can always sell my DFEX and the DF PRO on ebay in Australia for ~ $90 and $130 respectively which equals G25 later on. Both for more than what I payed.

Need to get my racing seat for my MX5 for track days first, then build some sort of cockpit frame, to make the seat dual purpose.

I'll let you know if the DFP is a improvment, which will be most likely, as my biggest enemy at the moment is trying to be smoothe on the DFEX.

Sounds like a lot of messing and swapping about, If you can sell your DFEX for $90 in the future, why not sell it for more now, put $200 in and get yourself a G25? I really can't see G25's coming down too much in the near future because certainly over here, a G27 costs almost double, for what is in reality not twice the wheel/experience. As long as there are G25s left and people want them, prices will stay up.

Ah. that would be because of my current setup.

I am using a table with foldable legs, so it's not exactly stable. The DFEX even causes it to shake and its force feedback is weak. I'd hate to see what a G25 would do.
Also the table is only 10mm thick, but it has a 20mm still ring around it, and the wheel clamps on to this 30+mm area. This bit of steel is only about 5mm wide, so there isn't much for the wheel to bite onto. So I have to tighten the wheel every 20 laps or so, as it wiggles loose.
I know the DF PRO will go onto the table with its clamps, but the G25/27, no idea. Don't want to buy it and not use it untl I build my cockpit. I need time improvements now. Currently 60th in AUS.

Also my pedals are on tiles, and currently have a block of wood stopping them sliding away and also have to hold the corner of the pdeals with my left foot so the pedals don't go left and right all over the floor. Also means no left foot braking. This would also make the G25/27 a waste at the moment since I will not be able to use the clucth.

Also have no where to put the shifter.

I may keep the driving force pro if I do get a G25/27 down the line, so I can have the G25/27 in the cockpit and the DF PRO stuck to my dodgy table.

The DFEX that will be on ebay, once I'm happy with the DF PRO.:)

Hmm, 5 minutes a go I would have said DF PRO for price.

But I can get the DFGT for $15 more at the same place, well guess DFGT it is.

Only 3 more hours of waiting.

I really didn't know that this 200 degree wheel was that much of a disadvantage.
Thanks for this thread and info, I have had this DFEX since GT5P launch, and didn't realise that it kept me slower, damn. I'm currently 3'25.3xx, which means with more practice and a 900degree wheel, I can get into the 3'24s...I've gotta go for the G25 this month then.

Thanks again

Sorry for the noob question, but how do you change the settings on of the wheel? i have no idea where to switch it to 'simulation' or forcefeedback settings...
