DFEX Pinout (Driving Force EX)

Hi

I came by a second hand playseat. Along with it came a pretty battered Driving Force EX, that previous owners had used with a Playstation (II I guess). Anyways, the cable between pedal and wheel was cut (why I do not know), and the connector was nowhere to be found.

I downloaded the PC drivers and connected the wheel to the PC, and it came alive (connected an external power supply and the force feedback works OK, for all I can tell).

Searched the internet for a pinout of the DB9 connector for the DFEX but to no avail.

However, I reverse engineered the pedal setup by measuring the resistance in between cables, and came up with

- white +5
- yellow -gnd (gnd and vcc could have been swapped, should just be reversed functionality of the pedal)
- red left pedal
- green right pedal

I dismounted the wheel, to try to figure out the DB wiring, but all 8 pins were connected.

What I came up with
1- not conencted
4- gnd
6- vcc
... the rest is not straightforward to figure out.

Does someone out there have the pinout (or could figure out by measuring the DB9 connector).

Thanks in advance.

Hi Per,

I've approved your thread and hopefully someone can shed some light on your situation. Ironically after 4 years of procrastination I finally cleaned out my garage at the weekend and threw away the sporadically working old blue Driving Force wheel that'd been sat untouched for 3 years in the DFP box that was bought to replace it! :ouch:
Otherwise I'd have been able to try and find you what you were after. :guilty:

I have removed your email address from public display in the forum though, as you probably don't want to become a victim of unsolicited junk mailing and spam by advertising your email to anyone that views these forums.

I hope this helps to secure your privacy a little.

Digged a bit … but the wiring diagram I remember didn't pop up. Now are the pedals in a Momo, DFP and DFEX not wired all the same? If so, this wiring diagram of Logitech Momo Pedals could help out:

http://www.tytlandsvik.no/momo/MOMO%20Racing%20Force.pdf

Also, this thread could be of interest: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=71223

Well, that these should be wired the same was my hope too. I've found several similar posts with wiring schemes for the DFP, indicating:

1- not conencted
2,7 - accelerator
3,8 - break
4,9 - gnd
5, not connected
6- vcc

I've tried that configuration, assuming the number of the pins taken from the back of the male connector (1, top right).

But it does not come out right. When running the PC software driver, all inputs (buttons on the wheel including steering, paddles, etc.) work flawlessly, but when pressing the break pedal it acts up - several button indicators go on on the same time.... that cannot be right.

So to mee it seems that either my wheel is broken (that the input circuitry for the pedal connector is damaged somehow), or more likely that the wiring is still not correct.

Any thoughts on that.....

(If anyone has access to a DFEX wheel, it should be fairly easy to measure up the connector, measure the the resisance between pins to figure out what pins are shortcutted. Pedal output should generate a variable resistance to ground and vcc depending on position.)

Thanks in advance to all helpers out there!!!

Does anyone know if there is any pedal set that is directly compatible with the DFEX wheel?

Thanks in advance.

Hi!

I have the same problem!
I have a Driving Force EX and the cable of the pedal set is cut and I can't find the connector.
I've tried the setup above but it does not work. I have tried some other combinations but I can't understand the logic behind it...

Hi,

I have opened the wheel to see how the accelaration and brake are managed through its buttons (X=accel, square=brake, usb unplugged). Those buttons are pressure sensitive so they should work more or less in the same way as the pedal set.

First thing I have noticed: the two buttons reach a diode and this is making me thinking that our lost connector may have one inside it...

So anyway I have followed the circuit down to the socket and got this:

Brake ----------------------> Dark grey
----------|
->DIODE ----> Orange
Accel ----------|
-----------------------> Green

I don't know what kind of diode is this (it was marked ad "D") it has three connections.

Now I have connected the pedal set in this way:

pedal cable red -> Wheel socket green
pedal cable green -> Wheel socket dark grey
pedal cable white -> Wheel socket orange
pedal cable yellow -> somewhere to the ground of the main board
(also tryed yellow to orange and white to ground).

Finally it does not work, it behaves in a strange way, it brakes and accelerates in the same time, it remains accelerated... it does not make any sense.

Probably if I understand what kind of diode is used I could insert one and connect the pedal set direcly to the main board and bypass the DB9 connector.

Any comments? any thoughts?

thanks

Here's dfex pinout (tested)

Thank you very much...I've been looking for this info for a long time. Not easy to find. I was trying to use my ms sidewinder padals with a logitech df ex, and needed the pinouts to make an adapter. Adapter made all is working well.

Hey all! I'm not the brightest, but I found this thread. A while ago I thrifted a Driving Force EX, with what I thought at the time would be the accompanying pedals. It seems that the pedals I got were instead MOMORACING pedals! I'm wondering what I'd have to do to make the Momo pedals work with the DFEX wheel? I would be really glad if someone could tell me what to do haha
