I just dusted off my old ps2 and put on Gran Turismo 4. I have a ps3 DFGT wheel and it's been working fine with GT5P and the GT5TT.

It spins around as the game loads, but once in the game it will not work. The only time it works is in the options menu. It does not function on any other screen or in game. I would plug in the controller and plug it out again to get from screen to screen and test the wheel but nothing. Can anyone shed any light on this?

I am playing through a ps2 because my ps3 is not backward compatible.

Is your controller turned on. Try turning your controller off plug wheel into port #1 then put game in. This might help I'm not sure I don't have a PS2 but it sounds like the same problem people have with a PS3. If this works then set wheel up in options menu. After that you should be able to use your wheel and controller at same time as long as the wheel is seen as (controller #1).

PS2 controllers can't be turned on/off, at least not the first party ones.

opelgt: Sadly I can't think of anything that'd help, it's supposed to work without any hiccups, as the DFP did. Try switching it to the first USB port, the game might be mapping the wheel to Player 2, which could explain why it only works on the menus.

cheers guys, problem sorted. The controller must be plugged out when starting the console and the wheel must be plugged into USB port 1

Actually, you can have a controller plugged into port 2, and the wheel plugged into port 1 before powering up the console, and it will work just fine. The key is having the wheel in port 1. You shouldn't have any problems whatsoever, if you just make sure the wheel is in port 1.

EDIT: If you have a PS3, I would highly suggest playing GT4 on that. Unlike a lot of PS2 games (played through the PS3, (GT3 I'm looking at you)), GT4 actually looks and runs a bit smoother.

;)

All my PS2 Games look and play better on my EU "emulation" PS3.

Well, then you're lucky with the library you have. There are plenty of games out there that will look and run much better if played through the PS2. GT3 does not play half as well on the PS3 (well doccumented) as it does through a PS2, whereas GT4 (because of it's 1080i mode, no doubt) plays very well. "MTV Music Generator 2" also has some serious issues played through a PS3. It's hit or miss, really. About a 3rd of my titles play as well or better through the PS3.

;)

guys, i have just plugged my dfgt into ps2, with usb in port 1 ( i don't even have a controller for ps2). I started the ps2 and the light on the horn flashes but no calibration. At the moment i don't have any game to pkay, i'm waiting for wrc4 and gt4 from amazon, is normal that the light just flashes and no buttons work int he menu? it will get calibration once starting the game? thank you very much for any answer.

AFAIR I did always connect a Dual Shock 2 in addition to the DFP to my PS2. Never tried it without so I can't say if it was necessary or not...

ok, but is it normale that when i start the ps2 the light on the horn just flashes and i don't have any other sigh of life ( i mean no calibration like ps3 and buttons that doesn't work in the menu) ?

Yes. The PS2 software does not have the driver built-in. It doesn't know you have a wheel connected and that it needs to calibrate it. The game does, and it'll be fine.
