DFP vs DFGT ONLY, please help me decide!!

I now understand the need for a wheel. Really want one!!. I cannot afford the G25, as I cannot pony-up 300$ nor will ever. So my choices rely ONLY ON either the PRO or the GT. I play mostly prologue now. The pro is 50$ cheaper than the GT, and in my world cheap is good. I don't really care much for belts&whistles (horn and in-race settings) but really do not want to sacrifi road-feel, precision force feedback, etc etc.

What do you guys think?? P.S. please noone mention the G25 as this for me in not an option.

thanks

I own a G25, and I always considered it expensive until I bit the bullet and bought it. I must say worth every single penny I paid.

If you seriously can't stretch that far with your finances go fro the DFGT.

If you really cant afford a G25, I'd look for a cheap, used DFP because down the road you'll want a G25 anyways so theres no point spending a lot on a wheel at this point. DFP is a great wheel, especially if you find one on craigslist for $50. ;)

Yeah I said that too when I bought my DFGT, and now I have a G25 (and a DFGT). I recommend the DFGT if you can't justify the cost of the G25. If you make the jump later your not out the additional $100 to $150 but you have to retrain yourself to a different button config and better pedal feel. You won't be disappointed with the DFGT though.

like u money was ans issue so i went for the middle ground and got the dfgt,
the g25 didn't seam like worth the money at the time, but if i find one used down the road i (like to two years)might upgrade.

It seems you have answered your own question.

Two used DFPs for when friends come over. You might have to pop open the pedals and tighten the potentiometer connections, but that's about it. They're dirt cheap on Craigslist.

The DFGT is not all about the bells and whistles such as the horn and the ability to modify settings on the run. As you said, you don't want to sacrifice build quality or the feel for the road, and the DFGT is far better than the DFP in that regard (I own a DFP and tried a DFGT in Japan and trust me, the difference is huge). The DFP is an old design and its motors have a lot of mechanical resistance which stops the wheel from being able to rotate quickly (drifting on the DFGT I believe would be much easier than on the DFP due to the ability to counter steer quickly). The motors in the DFGT are also of a newer design and allow the wheel to rotate faster.

Final word: DFGT

i just got a dfgt and built a cockpit, now i dont want anything else, i have tryed mmy friends g25, and the dfgt and g25 feel almost the same. imo even the wheel spin positioning is the same. dfp was very very very slow. facts from the video

Even tho good advice to you was mention, to buy OLD DFP to save money since you will someday switch to g25 wheel, I would still pay bit extra to get DFGT wheel. It is way way better and smoother. After you get use to it, then get better wheel, but I really do not think you will have to. (except if you want better pedals)

I bought a DFGT because I couldn't afford the G25. I know the G25 is probably better but for the money I think the DFGT is a brilliant wheel and it's the best wheel i've ever used. 👍

Don't buy a used G25 though. I haven't abused the shifter at all, but it feels crunchy now. I might send it in for replacement.

Yeah I said that too

Yeah me too, I remember 3 years ago, when I first started online racing on my PS2 wondering what all the fuss was about and proclaiming that I would never spend the kind of money that others were spending on a wheel, when I was happy with this:

Ambo_playstation2.jpg

It did the job and was portable so I could take it to work:

Then I decided to take the plunge and buy a DFP and for a while was happy like this:

Which was fine for a while but sitting in my dining chair was getting too uncomfortable so I bought one of these:

Then the PS3 came out and good online racing died due to the lack of anything worth racing on the PS3 and the downturn in interest back on the PS2 with ToCA.

So I bought an XBox 360, Forza2 and ANOTHER! Wheel and ended up with this:

BUT! The old CRT TV wasn't good enough for the XBox so last Christmas Mrs Jonboy bought me a nice HD TV and a couple of months later I got a PS3 free with a new mobile phone contract so now I have this:

Now I have my order in for the up coming Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo Wheel S which will be a quality wheel for both consoles...........when it arrives. So my proclamation of never spending "that kind of money" (<£100)on a wheel has turned into almost £1000 worth of hardware, just for racing online, in 3 years.

Basically I would suggest that you keep an open mind, go for the best wheel that you can afford right now, but be aware that once you get used to it you'll be hooked, you'll want more and will find yourself looking lustily at the G25 or Fanatec wheels or even something that may come along that is better, you'll also probably find yourself thinking about where to fit a race seat and looking for ways to mount a Buttkicker (I've drawn the line at a Buttkicker, but never say never).

But it's all good and worth it............................or do I need help LOL

Wow nice setup jonboy. Have you considered an Obutto cockpit to avoid that bar in between your legs? You won't want that there once you start heel-toeing with that Fanatec.

i have the dfgt and it is worth the money, the feedback is so much better the the pro.
the quality is also better and ofcourse the wheel size. it handles very light and heavy if you want to. what can i say more?, i use it on my ps3 and pc and it works fine! okay youi don't really need the 900 degrees(never used it) but it's there.

proloque will be a whole new expirience with the dfgt, so I recommand that one

I’ve got both wheels and can assure you, take the DFGT. It is a bit bigger more stable and more accurate. And adjust some settings buttons on the wheel while racing is a nice bonus as well. Enjoy your wheel.

Please, anyone knows if the pedals are the same? (DFP vs DFGT)

Someone did send to here picture, some months ago... pedals are 100% identical by look and feel, but some small improves there was with electronic parts inside.

I remember, cause I have been thinking to buy new wheel too. My good old DFP is coming end of the road... :(

I have both wheels. The reason I have both is because the pedals on the DFP are rubbish. I had to finally upgrade because to get full throttle I had to press hard on the pedal, really mash it down. Other times the brakes would just come on for no reason. Happened with my mates DFP as well.

The DFGT pedals look the same but are better quality.

Simple, DFGT. It's "current". It has updated internal parts similar to the G25 to be a step above the DFP. The wheel is just as large as the G25, 11". RA (Realtime Adjustments" knobs are at your fingertips instead of having to be mapped like on the G25 and DFP. There is a PS button. Finally, the DFGT is not 4 year old technology.

The DFP is like playing "tug o war", not driving.

Comparing their original prices, the DFP and DFGT were both $150 brand new when released. The DFGT kills the DFP on quality and features. Now that they DFGT is about $100 why get something old and you'll be constantly wondering if you made the wrong decision?

Oh god not more expense! LOL

I was worried about the heel and toe problem with that bar, but from what I gather with the Clubsport pedals I think I'll be able to adjust the pedals well enough to get around that obstacle.........and anyway I really like my A1GP seat.

I've had all three wheels and I'd have to say the DG-GT has the best wheel and the G25 has the best pedals. I don't see much difference between the DFP and DF-GT pedals, they are both plastic crap with no feel. The shifter is a joke since there is zero clutch feel that would actually make something like this realistic (did I mention there is no shift feel either?). All you're really getting for the money of the G25 is a leather wheel and to be honest if you're serious about racing the DF-GT wheel has a much nicer grip and feel to it.

I settled on a hybrid of the DF-GT and G25 pedals. For your money go with the GT, it's a much nicer package than the DFP and not really that much more expensive. I mean it has a ... horn! What more could you ask for ?? :)

No, you're also getting those sturdier, stiffer-sprung pedals and the leather-covered shifter for the price of the G25. It just so happens that the clutch and the gated shifter on the G25 don't appeal to you as they do to other people. Increasing the clutch range past a (mostly) digital on/off button would be welcome though.

What, the g25 padals work with the dfgt wheel on the ps3?
