Chaparal 2J...

GT picked the Pescarolo, BMW V12, Bentley, Nissan R390 and the Corvette for me to race against. Tweaks to the gear ratios to extend top end, plus suspension and diff changes are essential to get the thing to be stable, but it will run mid/high 3:2x all day on R2 tyres and will go 10 laps before needing to pit (3L left), at which point the tyres are just turning yellow to orange. Because it only has three gears the gearing is long so there is barely any wheelspin

No engine mods at all. Easy win.

PS. yes I know I'm late to the party, but I've only just started playing again after a 3 year break whilst my kids were born etc.

No doubt, but I have very limited time to play, so you'll excuse me if I don't spend too much time on a detailed write up. There are plenty of set-ups out there from people with more time on the game than me, so I think my initial post had enough info for anyone to replicate.

The only thing I will add is this car is twitchier than a Squirrel on crack, so care is needed with the diff settings, toe and roll bars if you want to trail brake without spinning like a top.

If there is anything specific people wish to know, just ask...

Yea, Chaparral 2Js are very twitchy! They're absolutely great with lower-speed areas, but can be disaster-cases at high speed. I think there was only one or two examples made. Some low figure like that. To properly simulate one, keep the stock 3-speed tranny, and drive it as an automatic. There weren't any manual versions made, and the car was banned anyways not long after it began racing because the Can Am racing decided the 2J's snowmobile-powered downforce fans constituted "movable aerodynamic parts". which gave it an advantage over other Can Am racers once Chaparral figured out how to get everything working right.

Thanks FB, appreciate it and apologies if I seemed abrupt. I guess the mods can move it if they're nto happy.

Parnelli, 100% correct on the 2J. Nice to see someone else appreciates their motorsport history. It does pose a problem for setup though, as the car is required to be stiff and flat to maintain suction. Don't know how accurately PD modelled the effects of that aspect of the car though...

I've now been inspired by Smallhorses and others to run back through some race series for 200pts. Japan GT first in the Cusco Subaru... If I get the chance I'll post some details in the race reports section.

Adios, Carlos
