Difficulty Setting (Does it even work?)

Does it really even matter what difficulty setting you use in the Career Mode? Anyone else feel that there is some major inconsistency within the AI difficulty from one event to the next in some cases? It's almost like the game just says "ahhhh you'll play the level I decide".

I've also noticed that same issue with Quick Races too. On some tracks the AI reflect your difficulty setting, and on others you find yourself able to put some pavement between you and all other AI drivers except for the lead car (that takes off like a bat out of hell). You find yourself really racing ONE car for the win.

I always attribute this to me not knowing a particular track too well or making mistakes, so the AI can catch up.

I believe it does matter what difficulty they are on. I found it considerably harder on hard then it was on medium. Also in real races you find the lead car is only racing against two to three different cars.

All I know is "Easy" AI is nowhere near easy. They always give me a brutal fight. Cant imagine what "Hard" is like :scared:

The "fighting" seems quite equal, but the overall speed on a lap is lower on easy.

As soon, as you have left the pack behind you, you can pretty quickly get some distance between yourself and the field.
I like the more "competitive" AI a lot in S2U -veeery different from the GT5 experience.

AI also adapts to you. If you keep repeating an event because you don't win you'll find it progressively "easier" - AI crashes more and the lead car won't lead by "much". Still hard as hell but rewarding when you get a podium finish. Then you do it to try the first a few times having lots of fun.

The nice side effect it's your bank account gets filled without a grind feeling to it :D

Never tried easy though but after I changed from medium to hard I find the game a lot harder specially if you need to overtake. AI do defend their line and most of the time I can only beat them on the brakes in a good place. Also if you lose contact with the 1st car on hard, you can gain some ground but you won't catch him again (at least I can't :D)

I noticed on the first shift you would overtake many cars off the line.

Glad to see that was addressed.

You can still overtake them like that at some tracks with the right car if you do a perfect start.

This is true. My R34 Skyline usually leaves everyone in the dust at the start of a race, even on hard.

To me there is almost no difference. I was initially playing on hard and got used to it. Then switched to easy and almost didn't see any difference. You still have to drive pretty flawlessly to win. Especially if you choose the loaner car events where they have the same car as you. They are as fast as you on the straight line speed on easy, which imo shouldn't be the case. I thought that that was the point of EASY.

I couldn't agree more with your post! Goodness.., events where everyone has the same car def shows that the difficulty settings are inconsistent from track to track in career mode.

I know the AI is adaptive.., but damn!

I have never tried it on less than Hard, my philosophy is make it as hard as possible, then keep practicing until you are good enough to win at this level. This earns you loads of cash and you keep getting better!

It's a bit like chess, you only really learn from playing those who are better than you.

Which is I moved to hard from medium after the first events although the elimitator with the Zonda at Riviera is killing me

True. I don't see the point in different difficulties if there is an adaptive AI. Just say that AI is gonna be as good as you are and skip all this "different difficulties" rubbish.
