Digital projector lag

At my school, we frequently watch films on digital projectors in class, but the picture has extreme lag and screen tearing issues. I'm not sure of the model, but can anyone offer troubleshooting tips? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as all of my google search results only offer information about gaming.
