I play on 5 difficulty with no aids except ABS on Xbox controller on PC

Sometimes the AI rally times vary by up to 3 seconds or more, I was struggling to beat a rally raid where first place was getting 1:18, then I got 1:17 and the game got 1:15, I managed to shave off 1 second and got 1:16 consistently until the driver got 1:18, happens in trailblazers too, just find it weird that it can vary so much, also first place is usually way ahead of the rest

Any1 else notice this?

The AI is increasing in difficulty as you get faster. So, you're not going fast enough. Remember, you don't need to win every race to get first in an event. It will be based on overall time or points.

The game has gotten faster for me but never dropped down like that after multiple attempts.

I have seen it drop by 2 seconds on one leg of a rally race. i also race on level 5 AI. I like it, shows they aren't machines getting the same time every time.

But it's in the ball park so it's not too bad.

I finish a rally with 1:30 and the leading AI finishes with 1:27. I think to myself: "Great, I just have to reduce my time by at least 3 seconds".
I go a 2nd time, finish with 1:27.9xx, AI finishes with 1:25...

I'm not bugged at all by it, because if they can do it, so can you. Thus I just keep trying.

It's the same for Gymkhana events. Restart when you finish second and the AI in first place will have a better score.
Restarting via the service area tends to help.

Well maybe I'm not that good, cuz I find taking out 3 seconds pretty difficult, its probably in the hairpins, I feel like I take them in slow motion

I didn't make my post clear, I've seen the AI run segment times up to 2 seconds slower than previous time. I think the first attempt of a race the leader ran around 1'25.5 and I ran 1'27.0. I tried again and the leader ran about 1'27.7 and I was 1'27.5 winning the segment with a slower time than my first attempt.

The AI also tend to have "characters". Some of the drivers are particularly good at certain disciplines, whilst being hopeless at others. I've noticed that Roland Holzer, the DC Race Works driver, and Ruben Martinez (Nixon) are very good at Trailblazer, while Syd van der Linde (reddmango), Esteban Fernandez (Osiris) and Jaime Garcia (Flip) are good at rallycross, Henri Saarinen (Repsol) and Sig Kristiansen (Falken) are good at Landrush trucks and Mohammed ben Sulaymen (Oxy) and Max Davison (BP Ultimate) are good at Landrush buggies. On the other hand, Dmitri Smetsky (Dalikfodda), Didier Bernard (Garmin) and Gareth Jones (Castrol) are useless at almost everything they do, while Jon Tucker (Colin McRae Vision), Yuji Taniguchi (Fidanza) and Mika Vilander (Arai) are the jacks of all trades and masters of none.

I've also noticed that Ken Block is an excellent rally driver in the game - much better than he is in real life.
