Dirty Laps

I was doing some races in Event Mode last night with my Sprinter Trueno on Suzuka East and going down the front stretch in the middle of the road and the caution sign was flashing like I was driving off-road giving me a dirty lap. This wasn't the only car. I also drive my S15 Silvia in the Silvia Challenge and all three tracks did the same thing going down the straights. Not once did I get off-road, cut corners or make any contact the time the dirty lap indicator was flashing. Has anyone else noticed this issue?

I know you probably dont mean to be offensive but the term 'J**s' in your threat title is.

If you draft on or are drafted by another car the lap is invalidated - maybe that is your problem.

Yes the title really needs to be changed to JPN's The other word is very offensive.

Or did you mean Laps?

That's an unfortunate typo all right.

Did you draft/slipstream behind another car or maybe another car drafted yours? If either of those are the case then the game will invalidate your lap as it counts both of these as speed assists.

Yup drafting, 2 tires leaving the track, touching another car, touching a wall, using the rewind, or anything like that will dirty the lap.

Yup drafting will dirty the lap.

So does that mean that DRS & KERS in F1 is `cheating`, as it`s giving people an advantage?

I thought drafting was an integral part of motorsport? so why does FM4 penalize you for a legitimate racecraft?

I remember ferari doing this at the indy race a few years back, one gave the other a tow down the main straight at the start of his qualifying lap, was this cheating?

Also, the chicane after the tunnel at the Monaco, how many F1 cars cut or skip the kerb on the entry to that?

Another angle, how many touring car races have you seen where minor contact doesn`t happen?

Have the game makers never heard the saying `rubbin`s racing`?

I`ve only owned the game for around a week, but after reading around on here & finding out about all the bugs, glitches & downright stupid penalty systems that penalize you for driving `properly`, I think I`ll get rid of it & go back to the crapness that is NFS shift. 👎

Yes it`s crap, but at least it doesn`t penalize you for drafting <removed, AUP fail>! :grumpy:

Its a video game and in this video game they chose not to allow drafting times to be certified. This gives an unfair advantage over players that are alone without anyone to draft with. Not a big deal at all. If you want certified times, dont draft.

Its just to keep the leaderboards fair, its not a penalty nor does it penalise you in any way - a clean lap is hard to get during career, hot lapping is the best way to do it - only exception is the car overtaking ones in rivals mode !

Thankfully they removed the drafting penalty and the damage in the overtaking races. Otherwise those would be brutal. The Kaido and Nurburgring events were really tough to get a certified lap. I think it took me about 20 minutes to get through Kaido certified.

I tried the Kaido full circuit multiple times (read: > 50 times lol) but I can't get a certified lap in track days there.. sometimes it's so annoying how an AI just cuts you off when you're already on the inside of a turn. I'll get it someday though!

But, to stay on-topic, I think the drafting penalty is a good thing, if I recall correctly they adjusted it in FM3 because sometimes you were drafting a car a mile away and that made no sense. It's much better now and keeps things fair.
