Disc version installed but still downloading everything?

Went to game this morning and picked up my 25th anniversary edition, I wasn't risking waiting for the postman on my day off.
Got home and slipped the disc and to get it installed and to my amazement it's now downloading 90odd GB of data and 4 more hours waiting.

What was the point of the disc in the first place?

Anyone else have this?

I’m waiting for Game Stop to open at 10 to pickup my copy. I hope I don’t have to wait 4 hours, lol.

That's 4 hours after the initial 30mins waiting to installed to start playing music rally for 1 hour. So it's more like 5 1/2 hours.

It's infuriating, I may of well just working all day.

Exact same thing with my copy. Got delivered yesterday. 90+Gb donwload in roughly 4 hours.

It's not downloading, it's installing those 90 something gigs from the disk. I personally just had to download 17GB for the 1.05 update.

At least that is my case.

Are you on ps5? I noticed when claiming the 25th anniversary items the ps4 version was listed there as well, if you choose to download all it would also download and install the ps4 version which could slow down your disk install or patch download?

Happened to me too, 25th anniversary edition, disc spun once at the beginning for a few seconds then 97gb download. Yes the PS5 version.

I tried installing without the internet and it just failed.

It does seem like its downloading after the playable part. Lucky it only took 1 hour for me.

I have not redeemed the code.

Right. Internet off and restarted and it's nearly installed fully already.

Much be something to do with the redeem code. Only redeem the code after its installed.
I did not redeem it. I think is is triggered by the day one update. I was on the latest version after te 96gig download.

I did not redeem the code and it happened to me, glad you got it to install off disc though.

I might be misinformed, but the max storage capacity of Blu-Ray discs is 25GB single layer, 50GB double layer. If the game is 90GB it won't fit on a single disc, and at least partly downloading it would be inevitable.

Thats for a normal Blu ray, but PS5 can use Ultra HD Blu ray, which have higher capacity and can fit 90GB on one disc

Edit: Too slow :-D

Wish i was aware of this too. I did not redeem any codes. Just stuck the disc in. Saw it downloading 90+gb.. said oh well and left it to complete.

So took a day off so I can play first the Disk arrived at like 14:00 and is installing ever since then currently on 76GB and is 16:39 so total waste of a day off for me. Especially if I need to download 17GB of day 1 patch as well. P.S. is definitely not a disk install and also with HFW it took me much less time to install from internet :(.

If you go to the home page and highlight GT7 it says Copying for the first 10GB (the data on the disc) it just says downloading on the 'downloads' page by default.

Took me 12 hours and I have great internet. Sony's servers must have been overwhelmed. I should have worked too, lol.
