After LOON told me the Inpiration comp is no longer going to be run by him, and noticing how many times the photoshop comp has gone up and down, I wanted to have a discussion of ideas of why this happens, and how we can fix it. I see all these great ideas with tons of interest, then nobody decides to enter. It's extreme madness. I'm actually to the point where I get angry when people say they love it then never give it a second look. What I want is a discussion, as well as possible reviving of old competitions.

The rally comp is being revived, and i think the inspiration comp is a great competition.

My favourite comp in GTP (that I can´t remember the name now) is the one that we can enter in PMC or 2.0 division and submit a entry and compete against other members. That comp. rocks!!!
This comp. should return, because it gets many entries.

I'd love to be able to enter, but I just had knee surgery and can't sit in front of the computer for more than 5 minutes at a time.

Just so you know what I'm talking about, the inspiration comp week 3 got 3 entries...

That's not a lot in my eyes. It also seems nobody replies in it for a long time, then you get a few more before the deadline. Maybe current comps should be stickied like in the WRS forum? Maybe not important, but I do think something needs to keep them going instead of going into a coma only to wake up for one more entry...

I miss the Creative Comp, the one where an image was provided, i used to enter that about 6 months ago, it doesn't run anymore:(

I remember before it ended, it was very late every week, then it never came back......

Here is the last one......

As NTX said, the Photomode Tournament had to be one of my favourite comps. I would definitely like to see a third competition being held in the near future… and I wouldn’t mind organizing it myself, considering I now have the time.

That would be great. I love that comp.
But don´t forget, it gives a lot of work.
Lets see if other members think the same.
Cheers:tup:

Well if many members are interested, I'll be happy to do it.

Hmm, Am I being too off-topic here? :dunce:

I find the problem is a combination of two things: 1) The number of competitions there currently are and 2) the length of time it takes to produce a reasonable effort for a Photoshop-based comp.

Unfortunately, only a handful of people have the time and the inclination to take part in more than just a few comps at any one time, and the result is that many comps start to suffer from low turn outs.

Perhaps one idea would be to combine some competitions into one - so instead of the creative or inspiration comps being weekly, they'd both be bi-weekly on alternate weeks?

Another idea would be for comp organisers to agree with each other staggered deadlines for comps... i.e. the rally comp runs Monday-Monday, the Inspiration comp Tuesday-Tuesday etc., so that the comps don't tread on each others toes?

Another idea (which I believe was allowed before) would be for the creation of a multi-user 'admin' style Photomode competition account, where all comp owners had exclusive access to the account, meaning that any one comp organiser could edit/take charge of any comp... (although this would probably have to be ratified by an admin first...)

Unfortunately, Photoshop-based comps require much more time and effort, and hence comp organisers need to bear this in mind - ironically, alot of people (myself included) can sometimes be put off by seeing a great entry already posted and can't help thinking 'There's no way I could do any better than that!!' In that case, maybe some comps (esp. Photomode comps) could require submission of their final entries via PM to the comp organiser rather than posted in the thread... to be fair to all participants, the comp organiser could then post ALL entries in a gallery-style format after the comp deadline, as well as a poll for the best ones (whoever may be choosing them)... that way, everyone's work gets shown, but no-one gets put off before they even start?

Personally I believe that is a great idea, but with one addendum: no signatures included, so voting would be based more on artistic merit than a name. Not saying that happens, but if it does not having signatures on pictures would cut it out.

I like TM's idea, especially about everyone entering their submissions via PM, I don't think having a "multi user account" for comp hosts would work because if anyone can take over a comp or change something in a comp, it might make the original hosts angry or upset that someone took over or did something they didn't like.

EDIT: Does anyone think the Ispiration Photo Comp should stay running, or do you think there are to many comps right now, go ahead and stop?

Some great ideas in this thread.

I was going to be starting the Drift Photo Competition in about two or three days. Do you guys think I should?

It will have the same rules as the PMC, so it is not a hard core PS editing comp. :D I might add hue/saturation to the rules too. Maybe.

What do you all think?

I agree with Touring Mars's idea too, and that would make everyone try their best, since you never know what your 'opponents' are doing.

It would be better if combined with Minicooper's idea of sticking the thread, otherwise it would plunge into oblivion and there would be people not even knowing it was on.

On competitions, a good idea was to have themes with the ability of being easy to understand and come up with something for it - to increase the number of entries, since I came to see that some of the themes put to contest were a bit tricky, which I'm sure made many potential contestants shy of entering.

All of the themes are easy, theres no right or wrong. If what your entered is what inspired you then it within the theme no matter if it looks nothing like the theme picture. Its pretty much open theme all the time.

I think it should stay:)

OK, thats one person, anybody else?
Obviously me, but I think what we need to do is to find a way to get more people interested in it. People post at the eginning saying they want to enter, people post at the end saying that the entries so far look goo, and then it's over. In between there's often very few entries, and insted of others coming up with other entries, they comment on other's.

In between when it starts and ends is where not much happens. That's what needs to change, but I'm not sure how. How would we get people to enter instead of just commenting? Maybe a rule where if you post in the thread you must have an entry? Like if you post it should have a picture on it, and if it doesn't there should be one up soon? Tha twould probably just keep less people form posting though and it's a little harsh...

I'm just brainstorming here, but if anyoe else has ideas, feel free to tell us.

You should definetly start the DPC.

I am going to, I am not sure when though now. I was going to start it in the next few days. With the new Rally comp up, I don't know if I should. There are so many competitions here as it is.

OK, thats one person, anybody else?

I would love to see it still go, I find it very interesting and different from the others comps. 👍

@MINICOOPER120: I can't think of anything to try and get people to enter, sorry. I will think about it though, especially since I want to start a comp which might not last. :scared:

Maybe its not a good idea to put it here, it might be better to leave it the drift competition forum.

Sign me Up!!, I'm ready for any competitions!!

Oh btw, LOON I love your Avatar!! Where's my towel??

Dude, I used to run that comp, but this thread is a year old. Don't keep posting in these old interest threads expecting all these people to keep checking back after they've obviously died off. The inspiration comp ran, and there weren't enough entries for it to stay running. It happens to most new comps, and that's also why we don't need a million new comps right now. More comps means less entries per comp. I know I don't have time to make a bunch of different shots for each comp.

If you want to make a comp, go ahead, but I don't see why you keep posting in almost every thread related to competitions trying to start a bunch of new comps.

Yes it's time for discussion - we're all bored with the week #135 something!
We'd like to see a few WEEK #1's for a change! Regardless if they are successful or not, at least we can explore and improve. RIGHT?

Oh sorry, I thought this was current. Never mind.

But just curious - why do you have to enter every comp there is? You can choose the ones you like or are good at.

If this thread is dead then hey, lets talk about it elsewhere - I mean we can discuss can't we?
