Warning, trailer's quite graphic.

Dishonored is an upcoming first-person stealth action adventure video game being developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is scheduled for release worldwide in October 2012 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, beginning in North America on October 9.[6]
Set in the fictional industrial city of Dunwall, modeled after seventeenth century London, Dishonored follows Corvo Attano, a legendary bodyguard to the Empress who is framed for her murder and forced to become an assassin to seek revenge on those who conspired against him. Attano is aided in his quest by the Outsider, a powerful being who imbues him with magical abilities. Several actors provide voice work for the game, including Susan Sarandon, Brad Dourif, Carrie Fisher, and Chloë Grace Moretz.

The game is played from a first-person perspective and allows the player to tackle a series of assassination missions in a variety of ways, with an emphasis on player choice. Missions can be tackled by stealth, combat or a combination of both. Exploring levels opens new paths and alternatives for accomplishing mission goals, and it is possible to complete all missions and eliminate all of Attano's targets in a non-lethal manner. The story and missions are modified based on violent actions, or lack thereof, committed by the player. Magical abilities are designed to be combined to create new, more powerful effects.

I think it looks interesting, like Assasin's Creed with Bioshock powers set amongst some colonial cyber-punk setting. The developer, Arkane, hasn't done too much as a company quite yet, but this is their big chance to shine. Seems like they're obsessed with competing with Assasin's Creed and can't get beyond having the guy have super powers as in their arguably bad Bioshock 2 work.

But I'll hold judgement till we actually see gameplay and such, every game needs a competitor, so it's fine, but it's kind of getting old getting nothing but sequels and knock-offs these days :/.

The lead art director for Half-Life 2 is heading the art here on Dishonored though, so it should at least look nice.

The trailer looks bad ass on its own though, so what do you all think?

E3 gameplay walkthrough for a certain mission:

I like the look of it because it's first-person. The gameplay looks awesome.

And it looks NOTHING like Assassin's Creed.

Looks promising, hope the story is interesting and dynamic. Love a good conspiracy with plenty of twists and turns.

Some info from the forums.

Q: What is the mission structure for the game? Is Dishonored an open world game?

A: Dishonored is a mission-based game, with each location a living, breathing place in the city. These places have distinct identities, but also feel like part of an integrated world. Each mission will take you to a set of sandbox areas with multiple pathways encouraging exploration, in terms of both physical space, player style and game mechanics powers. The game also features a central hub that you revisit between missions. Incidentally, one of our core values is world cohesion, so we think about who lives in each place and how the area functions, realistically.

Q: What about the gameplay? Is it a stealth game or a “run and gun” FPS?

A: “Play your way” is one of our sayings at Arkane. In Dishonored, you will be able to find and exploit your own play-style. Whether you prefer several flavors of stealth, trickery or direct combat, the player will be able to make gameplay style choices throughout the game, second to second. However, the game is tuned so that direct combat is intense.

Q: Tell us about the game's perspective and the philosophy behind it.

A: The entire game is seen through the player-character's eyes as he moves through the world. (Not sticky cover system or third-person camera cuts.) You have a range of movement options from first-person point of view, including lean, sprint, slide and mantle. In addition, you have the opportunity to gain improved physical abilities throughout the game through one of our three character upgrade systems. Swimming, hiding in shadows and getting up onto rooftops are part of the fun.

Q: When are we going to get to play Dishonored?

These tales really are cheerful :sly:

But they do give us a good picture of how bad things are at the story's start.

I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. One worry I have us the length of the game. But other then that it looks great.

This game looks so amazing. Like Bioshock on steroids. I plan to at least rent it in the near future. This October is such a busy month for gaming.

Anyone playing this.

it's awesome.

Crawling around like a renaissance Solid Snake.

Been going the more silent way, though I haven't managed to go undetected till now. But my best mission is 1 kill 2 bodies found.

And killing is so much fun that sometimes I go on the killing spree and let me die to start over silently.

Awesome game, though it looks like it could be a bit short storywise, but with around 2 hours per mission if you play abit outside, listing in to conversations, it should go around 14 hours...
And replay value is huge

I picked this up on Friday. I'm having a blast with it. It's a great game and I'm sure I will replay it many times. It's also refreshingly difficult too. I just started the last mission. After I'm done, I will attempt a no kills playthrough. That won't be easy. Failing that, I will attempt to kill just about everyone. Much has been made about how more kills = higher security in later missions. I haven't killed that many people on my first playthrough, so it will be interesting to see how different things are.

So far, my best performance in a level was no alerts and 1 kill. Looking back at it, the one kill I made was completely avoidable. That mission in particular was quite easy though, I can't imagine getting zero kills in the latter levels.

It's a really enjoyable game. It is reminiscent of Half Life 2 and Bioshock. For some reason, I keep thinking of Timesplitters when I play it too. I have the sudden urge to dig out the orange box and go through Half Life 2 again.

It's a good game but pretty short IMO, i'm already almost done with it and I could've easily gone no kills (only ended up killing the main targets of some missions because I was irritated).

I heard the main campaign was only about 6 hours long. I realize there will be multiple playthroughs but thats still quite short. I do plan to rent this eventually.

6 hours if you go strait in and just shoot your way through which is definitively not the way to go.

I am in mission 3/7 and am already 5 hours in.

Maybe I m jsut slow

But the beauty of the game is to make the sidequest, listen the conversations and plan carefully your way in through studying the guards path.

Lovely
