Do Prologue versions promote sales or leave people waiting?

I remember when GT4 prologue came out there was heaps of news about it, and the same thing now with GT5 Prologue but my question is what do you think will be the overall outcome of these "demo" versions?

I think it develops interest amongst racers but it seems like a lot of work to create a detailed demo more than just developing the game itself.

Either way i'll happily play them :)

I think GT5P is a great game, and the idea of a broad demo that is actaully a game in itself works quite well for the GT series, but i do think that there is a point where the antisipation built up for GT5 is lost due to the mass amount of time between GT5P's release, and the still unknown GT5 release.

I don't think it would be that much extra work. GT5: Prologue is basically the base for GT5, and so a lot of their code will be expanded upon / reused. Trust me, I'm a programmer! :)

Prologue has been great. It's my most played PS3 game, and I cannot imagine how hard the wait would be for GT5 without Prologue.

Thats true, a lot opf poeple take GT5 Prologue for granted. Wut would we do if there was no prologue, and we were stuck with GT4 for 2 years til GT5 comes out!?!?

Agree. For this game, yes. We won't 'need' a GT6 Prologue so much after GT5, compared to after GT4. Mostly due to online play not working well in GT4.

GT5P has serious limitations, but the ability to race high-quality people will keep us serious folks entertained until full GT5.

Once we have GT5 and all it's features (whatever they are), a 'demo' for GT6 won't be much more than a graphics show-off. IMHO, of course.

You never know, as amazing as GT5 seems to be, there may be a lot of room for improvement (that does not mean the game will be lacking).

Progress in GT is kind of slow anyway, depending on how you look at it. The PS2 games could have been a lot more realistic, but GT was a victim of its own success, and tried appealing to everyone instead of going pure sim. GT5 might be the same.

Alternatively, if GT5 "perfects" physics or some other aspect, that will mean the next GT will be able to focus on other things, for instance if GT5's physics engine was perfect, it would mean the bulk of GT6 would be customization, where you can change even the chassis structure of a car. I think something like that would justify a demo.

And in relation to the original question, I like the demo idea. If GT5P had user created rooms, I could wait for GT5 for a decade (almost).

my argument towards the prologue version is that I will play that version so much, that when the actual release comes out I feel that is only an expansion on to the prologue.

I know that it fills in the gap while you're waiting for the full release but I am sure they are making more money by releasing the prologue than just waiting to release GT5

Definitely. An easy way to confirm this would be to ask how many people bought a PS3 just for Prologue. (I sort of did) Plus, I bet 90+% of people who bought Prologue will also buy GT5. (I know I will:))

I'm very happy with the way GT5:P has turned out and am quite happy to play Prologue until the full version comes out. :)

+1. Same here. I would rather GT5 come out sooner rather than later though. Can't wait to try Nurburgring and Top Gear Test track with new physics.:D

I´ve always felt that the prologues are just a way to keep us interested! They give us teasers, like GTHD, Tokyo - Geneva and the prologues, so that we´ll see that PD is actually working on something that is most likely worth waiting for.

To release a Prologue version is equal to NOT leave people waiting. We can practice our GT5 skills and test a whole range of different cars on multiple tracks in different environments. If I would have gone to GTPlanet.Net after I bought my PS3 to read "No Prologue version will be released for GT5" I would never see that as good news.

So what if they make money of a Demo. I will gladly pay them as long as they release the high quality gaming experience they are known for.

Leave people waiting? Prologue? Haha if there was no prologue the wait would be much much harder.

I think GT5P is very underestimated, it's called a demo half the time but when you look at it, it has close to the same amount of races and cars as GT1. Plus we all know the prologue is for the true hardcore fans anyway.

I am sure they will be quite healthily promoting sales, after all they do usually highlight the platforms potential fairly early on in its life.

Because GT dev times are so long I think Prologue's are a good idea and give something to the fans to chew over whilst they wait. It also helps prepare you for the full game and gives to a chance to polish your driving skills etc.

Prologue also acts like a hook for new people to get into GT. By offering a taste at a cheaper than normal price it gives a bigger experience than a demo and hopefully keeps their attention till the full version comes out.

Plus it probably generates some revenue for PD to keep going whilst they spend years preparing the game. :sly:
