Do You Really Care About Little Details?

If the Chrysler ME412 isn't in GT4, I'll still buy it. If it doesn't have Tokyo R246, I'll still buy it. If GT has NASCAR-style oval racing, I'll still buy it. If the rims look like they've been done by a 7-year old, I'll still buy it. I'll still buy the game regardless of little issues. My "Greatest Hits" version of GT2 kind of has the sound skipping with the cars when I race around sometimes during long races. I don't expect the PS2 to deliver graphics and programming that can challenge almost anything on the market. All I want GT4 to be is a constant reminder as to why I love the series. It hasn't failed me yet, and I don't expect it to as long as my heart pumps blood and my lungs provide oxygen. I'm not expecting everyone to give it a 10 out of 10, 5 out of 5, or whatever else. I just want people to know that GT4 is a wonderful game no matter what may be missing. Hell, I don't care if Le Mans is shortened like Pikes Peak was in GT2 (granted it's in).

There's a lot of things I couldn't care less about upon GT4's release. All I hope is that it can satisfy as many tastes as possible without leaving GT diehards scratching their heads saying "why did they leave out/add ___? I loved ___!" The blanks aren't curse words, they are just generic markers for anything. Little details. They matter, but not enough to leave GT fans wanting more. And if they don't like it because it isn't as extreme as Rallysport Challenge, as fun as Project Gotham Racing 2 (read "My Confessions about PGR2" in the Game Reviews forum for why I said this), as hardcore as "Jarrett and...Car Racing," kiss PD's ass. Then kiss mine. Those little details aren't everything to making games great. If a game company can put enough out to please everyone, PD's happy, Kazunori Yamauchi is happy, and even I will be happy.

IMO little details are unimportant on thier own. If exhaust flames are not included but everything else everyone has suggested is then who can say the game is any worse off.

Of course people can whine and be pedantic but the game wont suffer for it.

However, if there are no little details, no smoke, no tyre marks, no sparks, no damage, no 3d crowds etc then the game feels lifeless and empty. As long as PD can avoid that then they will have succeeded getting it right.

Nicely said. 👍

Yes, but the little details are what immerse people into the game. The reflections in the original gt were nice, they may not have been the reason for the games attention but they sure caught people's eyes.

like many things in life... when you add up all the little things, that's what makes things great. But i for one am glad that it's those little things (other than AI/challenge) that are the most debated in the GT series... don't think it would the game that it is or as anticipated if we were yapping about the crappy physics, or lack of force feedback with the wheel, or the grainy quality of the graphics.

It does stand as a testament to PD that we can only squabble over little details for the most part, but there are still some glaring details to address, when possible.

It's the little details that will make GT4 the ultimate driving simulator. I was watching the Paris vid after finishing a series in GT3 and I realized that just the motion blur adds a ton of detail and realism to the game. No one here can argue that GT3's replays are the best "console-racing" graphics. But these little details like the motion blur, street light reflection, great shadowing, 3d crowds, make GT4 a game that will forever revolutionize the whole gaming industry.

Glad to see GTPlanet back up and running. So glad to see this. Since the re-opening, it's time to go back to work!

As an update, wheels has been the biggest issue from other threads. I've mentioned this elsewhere, and as I said, little gameplay details are better than little graphical details. I don't care about reverse lights. How many race series do you see have people with reverse lights? Do you think Terry Borcheller would put on his reverse lights on his ass-o-listic Daytona Prototype? Do you see an Audi R8 (when it does make a mistake) turn on reverse lights? Well, if I don't see it happen in pro racing, why GT?

Do you care about little details? It's BACK. Carry on, if you wish.

how many of you race in an in car view? most of you right? (wow i don't know where im going with this) so the appearance of your car doesn't really matter while your racing. so if there so concerned about all this stuff choking the speed of the game. why don't they cut out all the s$#t while where racing and then throw it all back in for the replay.

one thing thats getting me cut about gran turismo is that some of the information about the cars is incorect. like the 787B in gt3. it doesn't have a turbo.

also some of the sounds, there isn't manny different ones (sounds when you brush the wall and decide to drive into the car infront of you on a tight conner) like it would be cool if when your braking that you can makes contact with the ground it was to make a scuffing sound (and then there would be different sounds for fiber glass or steel) or if you have a turbo charged car, you could get a bang noise from the unburnt fuel inighting as it exits out the pipes (and on naturely asperated cars so, its just more common to happen on cars with forced induction) i so so hope that there a super charger sound (the delta S4 better have both a supercharger and turbo sounds because it has both)

AND the tunned toyota in GT4P, we don't need that. its just a fad i would rather see some car from europe that i have never herd of and has a max speed of 90 kmp/h. if you want these cars go play NFS:UG. but keep the LM cars (like the rx-7 lm race car, that was cool)

good day to you

No extras, no back up lights, no back fire, gt3 level sounds, better physics, more cars and tracks. This is all I want. I'm 100% sure PD will work in some little extras, and I will be happy to use them.

id say let em keep doing what there doing... nov/dec/jan, it doesnt matter ittl be worth it cause the longer they spend adding stuff the longer we'll all be playing it.. and its a long time till gt5/ps3!!!!!

Yeah, I do care about the little details. They can really make the game truly shine. Example: falling snow on the new snow course they just unvieled. It adds to the feel. Another example would be moving cloulds and flying birds moving around in a beautiful sunset (hope they've got atleast one course like this in the game). It adds to the experience. However, all of this bird feces bull**** being in the game adds nothing to the feel or the experience, therefore, it's not needed. Plain and simple

Gran Turismo 4 is only going to be as perfect as people say it is. You can't make GT4 any perfect. I've liked GT4 since seeing pictures and stuff. And while sticking to an underground community like here on GTPlanet, my anticipation for this game has been heightened greatly. So, after reading about what this game will offer, I can only hope the game won't disappoint me, or at least say that "this game could have been better." I saved that remark for GT2. However, even... just about ANY GT for that matter is only as good as PD makes it. Judgment is resevered to the game player, which means you, myself, and others. I mean, if you think GT4 is a good game when released, your call. If you think GT4 is a waste of time and want to play Project Gotham Racing 2 or RallySport Challenge 2 instead, that's fine. All I'm saying is that GT4 will be created with love and care, also with the notion of making it a hit. My analogy would be that the amount of devotion and care going into GT4 is like parents raising their child/children to follow in the footsteps of their loving parents. All the while, learning new things in school and making friends in life. Regardless of the situation, the child must learn and learn, develop and develop, and do whatever it takes so that when this "child" makes it into the real world, he/she will be able to make a statement when ready for tough times and valuable lessons.

So what stage is GT4 in? It's in the development stage, getting ready to get into the real world. And when this "child" makes its way into the real world (game stores), us GT fans will grace it with love and respect. We'll own our rivals online. We'll enjoy the single-player experience. We'll do it all, even if we don't think it's on par with other racing games not like GT. And as I say, who cares about certain non-critical issues about GT4? Do stylish wheels mean anything? Reverse lights? Visible damage? Mirror-like car reflections? Cardboard people? Well, if you know that the game is more important than graphical features, you know which is more important. If you know the graphical features are more important than the game, you obviously need a crash course in what seperates classic games from substandard games. I don't have a teaching permit, so you may have to learn on your own.

Little things, aren't those the things we're supposed to appreciate...I know I do. If they did all the little things you notice once in a while and think "Oh that's cool, I never noticed that before".

Only "little things" I want are the reverse lights, the front blinkers on the Trueno to be lit up at night like they should, and backfire. All I ask for ;)

TheCracker
As long as i have the option to run in 'mph' rather than the euro norm of 'kph' - i'll be happy with the way GT4 is shaping up.
How do you change from KM/h to MPH?

Sure about that, TheCracker? I heard of a more complicated formula... no wait. I'm thinking about miles to kilometers. Or am I? Oh, hell. Reply on.

1 kph = 0.62Mph so 100 Kph = 62Mph. I'm not sure if TheCrackers method is spot on but it's accurate enough, that works it out at 100Kph = 62.5Mph.

1 kph equals 0.621 mph.

TheCrackers method works just fine, as in its case 1 kph equals 0.625 mph (5/8 = 0.625).

for me, the little details make the game
like seeing your pilot shift gears trough the rear window of the car
Damage would be good for an even better (Hardly possible) racegame like Gran Turismo.
But i actually don't mind.
Even with all the canges to come. What ever happens next GT is King 👍
