The 1968 Dodge Dart Hemi Super Stock, otherwise known as the Hurst Hemi Dart, is a special race-ready model built by Hurst Performance specifically for the NHRA Super Stock class.
It came fitted with either a 440 cubic inch (7.2l) RB big-block, or the more popular 426 cu. in. (7.0l) Hemi (as shown here), which officially made 425bhp - however, this was likely as high as 535bhp. This was put to the tarmac through a four-speed manual or automatic.
It may look like another cumbersome 'Murican drag queen, however the Super Stock strongly adheres to the "add lightness" mantra. Fibreglass replaces sheet metal panels; the doors are acid-dipped; the bumpers have been thinned; the seats are out of an A-100 van and are fixed in position; and the side windows are polycarbonate Chemcor units.
