Ignore the following post. I won the Ford GT LM Race Car SPev II and rinse the US events with ONLY tyres upgrades. NO other tuning required except oil change:)

Hi, im about to enter the US races on extreme. What is a better base car to start with, the Viper ACR or the Corvette ZR1? the Viper sounds good in the description/write up but i see lots of people Race Modding their ZR1...

Isnt the ACR already kinda pre race modded with its brembo brakes, adjustable things and lots of downforce?

Can the ACR do capably without me pouring 100,000's in and win the US extreme event?

the ZR-1 RM is faster afaik because it can go faster through corners, with customized Transmission the Viper can acheive a higher top speed though

I would go with the acr cuz it has about the same power as the zr1 i think for a cheaper price

ZR-1, you don't need to hit the breaks doing the oval track and the ACR can't even go around a corner without braking a ton. If you're concerned about the price you can make the 700k you spend back in like 30 minutes.

I've been dissapointed with all my Vipers. On the other hand I have over 500 wins with my ZR-1 Race Mod. The fastest American car I have is the carbon fiber GT-40 Test Car found in the Grand Turismo dealership. 3.5 mill Cr. but runs 3:35.3XX at American Champ Indy and is easier to drive than the ZR-1 RM.

Get both of them, the Viper for the fun of it and the ZR1 RM to do the Racing!

But fun besides, the Viper will easily win the American Championship but you’ll struggle with it in the “Like the Wind” Race in Indy.

The ACR in the game doesn't come with all the bits it has in real life sadly.

The ZR-1 is probably the best bet for the event, however, I won the ACR from a prize ticket, and it's a ton of fun for sure. Pick one up and try and beat the official Laguna Seca record!

Ah ive outdone myself but this time in a good way!

I didnt want to spend the money race modifying that ZR-1 so i did the dream car event first, won the Ford GT LM Race Car Spec II stuck some racing slicks on it and can win easily with no other mods!

With zero tuning i can take corners at 185-195mph depending on the size of your angle into the corner, and of course your cajones. Average laptime is ~ 47.5 give or take a tenth here or there. I can stick a supercharger on it for 17,000 credits and really nail it if i wanted to.

Sweet! I just won that car last night, but haven't tried it out yet. Just racing softs and you managed the American Championship?

This. 👍

41.7's with the ZR1RM around Indy. You're not going to come close to that with either the Viper or GT's............Although I do Love all the GT40s and GTLMs.

Yep spend the 36k on slicks soft and just plough into the course!

When im lapping the field, getting 42s or 47's makes very little difference. But In terms of cost, ive saved what, 500k? 800k?

I did A spec with the Z06 RM. I did B spec with ZR1 as bob really couldnt shake them in the Z06 RM. If you want to save money, do it with ZR1 for both.

The zr1 is much better for going around a track. It has plenty of hp and is way lighter than the viper. The viper pulls hard in straights but is shat around corners because dodge makes shat chassis. The zr1 is more expensive but it is a better investment.

I went with the RM'd ZR1, but i also was on a very non-tight budget. The ACR is a better car out of the gate than the ZR1 and doesn't take as much money to make it to where it is a very strong competitor

Is it? Similar horsepower figures but the ACR has a bit more torque without the ability to plant it firmly. Factor in the cornering speeds and I say the ZR1 comes out on top. Is it as much better as it is more expensive? No, but I still lap faster in it on default tires and much faster in it on Comfort Softs.

The ACR is a better car out the gate than the ZR1 if you know how to drive. Even if you don't, its still an easy car because of its long gearing and downforce.

I guess it all comes down to preference and driving style really. The reason i said the ACR was a better car out of the gate (coming from someone who loves the ZR1 and can't stand vipers) was because of the fact the ACR has downforce, upgraded suspension, and a more forgiving power band. The ZR1 is however a much better investment. Maybe down the road you get more credits and give the car some parts, and you have a car that can beat just about anything in its way and is a blast to drive.

To the OP: If you'd like to "test-drive" these cars before buying them, or if you would like me to just send you both cars, add me. My PSN is SpiritHockey61.

Your drumming up a 3 year old thread?

You're replying to it with disdain but not adding anything of value?

What's the problem with answering questions that were asked some time ago? Even if the person asking the question never sees any of the later answers, someone else may get some information without having to create a new thread. This forum has moderators, let them moderate.

I am a big ACR fan, I would wager to say it is the best production non-RM car in the game.

I own 3 ACRs and 2 ZR1s. While testing them for an American Championship idea I had, more often, the ACR was the quicker car. Hell, even the Z06 fared better than the ZR1. The ZR1 is heavier than the ACR, which does impede the handling, so the ZR1 is likely harder on its tires. Especially if you compare them in stock form. Now when I did those tests, the cap was 650HP and 1200kg. The only time a Corvette was faster than a Viper was at the Daytona Road Course and it was a Z06, not a ZR1, that was the faster car. Every other test that featured both an ACR and ZR1, the ACR was the faster car. Especially since it's "a race car with license plates", as Top Gear USA presenter Rutledge Wood called it.
