In the past, I've played the original Colin McRae Rally, Colin McRae Rally 2, 4 & the original Dirt.Yes i do, it's tough but good,it's definitely more simulation than arcade. Even if you're a hardcore sim racer there is no reason you Shouldn't be able to enjoy the physics.
In that case bite the bullet. For the price of a AAA game you could have Dirt, AC and Pcars GOTY right now.In the past, I've played the original Colin McRae Rally, Colin McRae Rally 2, 4 & the original Dirt.
If it's similar to those, it'll be a blast & I'll manage just fine.
Thanks for the reply
That sounds very reassuring & I should add that I'm more towards a simulation than an arcade guy which is why WRC is off the list. Although they've got parts of the real stages used in the WRC, the cars are too 'gripped up' for my liking.@Pete05 I've just had a quick go in the 2001 Focus using the D-Pad for steering, and I'm bowled over at how controllable it is. It's honestly not far off from using the analog stick, felt perfectly comfortable even without any aids. This is just ridiculous. It's like Codemasters have a sixth sense that knows exactly when to filter out your bad inputs, and when to keep the inputs you really need.
The game is more difficult than the older McRae/Dirt games, but know that CM have literally performed witchcraft to help you out I'd definitely recommend it. 👍
DiRT Rally is the best racing simulation out-of-the-box for use with a DS4. You'll have no problems whatsoever using the controller.
Please, please tell me manual shifting is done with L2 for down & R2 for up shiftsNever mind. Suddenly I can DiRT!
Had to use manual gears to get a better sense of the speed I was carrying, and for that I had to setup the button configuration to my usual GT one (which means I'll have to fine tune sensitivity - cause X and O for brake and gas and d pad for steering) but in general, it's now perfectly OK. Just have to get a bit more used to it.
And yes, it's quite the SIM... Quite brilliant. Pikes Peek gravel with the 406 is my home now. Can't wait to memorize the track (like I did the 'ring) and spend countless hours in it.

I started a similar thread and asked a very similar question to the OP in the Asseto Corsa thread & someone said the D-pad buttons were digital on the DS4Yes mate, I changed it to the way God always intended it to be!
I miss the PS2 DS and its "12 levels" of pressure on the top buttons. Had an adapter for the PS3 and was so much better than the "sixaxis" in driving games.
Does the DS4 have that? I can't feel it... feels on/off. I think they only have the L2/R2 triggers progressive.

I find that absolutely amazing for all the wrong reasons
Yeah, evolution Sony styleSo digital as in 0/1 - on/off. Talk about evolution...
I'll eventually get an adapter for the G25 anyways... Solves that, reuses the wheel and also saves my thumbs. Been playing all afternoon and I'm pretty sore. Don't remember that last time a played a game for so long. I think I'm gonna make a video of my hands while playing. My son says it looks frantic.
What he said. I was pleasantly surprised how nice it felt with the default DS4 settings when doing one of the rally stages in Greece before the full install on the PS4 for the first time ever, with the the Ford Escort nonetheless(!). Very controllable and predictable.DiRT Rally is the best racing simulation out-of-the-box for use with a DS4. You'll have no problems whatsoever using the controller.
