Does Career feel 'dumbed down' to anyone?

First thing I noticed was how the easy the license tests were - it's like they are there to pay homage to earlier games and for some perfectionists who want all gold but not much more.

Bronze license benchmarks seem like if you can pick up a controller then you'll get most bronze licenses first or second shot. I haven't played GT5 in couple years (and I kind of suck at it) but I still managed silver on every test with maximum 2 attempts and easy golds (about 8 tries on the one test but max 3 on all others) on the first 10 tests (National A & B) to boot.

Maybe my memory is playing tricks but I thought it was a lot harder in the past to progress through license classes??

The other surprising aspect is only needing 20 stars at each level to progress. With 1 star for just competing it seems all you need to do is run 20 races (even in last place every time) and you qualify.

I'm through to International B championship (roughly the 2/3 mark of career) with only about 6-8 hours of play. I know races get longer but finishing career in probably 15 hours??? Seems quick.

Have they just learnt and become very careful to make sure nobody gets stuck mid-career ???

I'm sure it's to keep people from getting stuck. But then, I've been able to Bronze most license tests in GT5 first shot, with Silver not being uncommon either. Haven't gotten to the license tests in GT6 yet though, so I can't judge whether they're easier than GT5 or not.

I believe you get bonus cars only for all gold licence completition , so maybe gold awards were a bit toned down in difficulty to make casual player less frustrated. You know many casuals dislike licences so I see no problem if they are not hard. Also , finishing career does not equal finishing GT - in 5 I've finished career in about 14 days x 2 h a day play =28-30h of play , but then there are all those 1-24h real time races left to do and that takes a LOT of time.

Bronze was always easy for exactly the reason you said, so that people don't get stuck. Silver and gold used to be at least somewhat challenging.

The way you speak of Gold formerly presenting a challenge, I take it you've gotten Gold on all of GT6's license tests?

You misread. I don't have the game yet, I'm simply saying that the old ones used to be somewhat hard. The OP is presenting the information that the GT6 ones are easy, not me.

National B and A have always been easy. Maybe the OP is just underestimating his own skill. He says he hasn't played GT5 in years, but has he not played a single racing game in the interim?

Gold seem ok. But I recall things like 21, 22, & 28 seconds for benchmarks.

I managed 30 straight wins in novice, Nat A & B ... Just seems easy

And genuinely haven't touched console in 3 years. maybe it is just because I played all GT games from 1 to 5. And I'm not anything special at playing.

getting gold is way to easy, yeah. but i like how there aren't as many tests, in the previous GT games, they felt like a drag.

Well your friend's times show on the license leaderboard so that's an extra incentive
Seriously we now have friends leaderboards on the licenses. If true im delighted because its a feature i've been going on about for ages.

What about other leaderboards. Are these still restricted to seasonal events only??

I was watching some gameplay a few days ago and noticed it seemed very easy, first try the person golded by about 7 tenths or something and his driving was awful.

I have been playing Gran Turismo since GT2 (bought GT1 later). Having completed the first 2 tiers of career, yes, it's easier. I like the faster licence tests. Like @colj00 said, they felt like a drag in other games, at least to me. However, the career has also been fun so far. I just hope it has enough races because it does indeed seem to go by very quickly...

I do feel it has been "dumbed down" a bit early on, I hate how it forced me into a initial lap at game start up, I hate it forced me to buy a first car of their choosing.

After getting through that stage it is going well though.

As for licenses, I have only done National B and golded all of them with plenty of room to spare all on my first attempt... So far so easy.

Yeah, I just gave the Nat-B tests a whirl... Golded 3 of them on my first attempt, with the other two being sloppy and Silver. Pretty cake. Even got a trophy for getting a time that was .5 seconds faster than the gold time.

I don't mind it though. You don't need to be an excellent driver to be able to get gold and win the associated prizes, but you still have to demonstrate familiarity with the skill that the particular test is about.

Plus IMHO getting gold in past GT games was sometimes excessively difficult.

No it doesn't to me. I have to say, I've been playing GT since the first one. It has always been possible to get a car that easily clear the event. However, I'm in the IA races right now. It's not hard, no, but it has that true GT-caracter that was lost in GT5.

As for the licenses, yes they're not that hard. That's true, but I remembered I never drove that Viper Concept Car in GT2 because I just couldn't gold all the licenses. It would be a shame if someone missed a car because of that.

Apart from the 7th test of the IA licence in GT1 (japanese version). SS Route 11 in a TVR Griffith. That was a beast back in the days. Man, I'm getting old...:indiff:

I can't speak for all licences but they do seem to have become too easy so far. Golding everything to this point on my first try with half a second to spare is not a good sign and it's certainly not me being a great driver.

While now a days I enjoy a challenge, I think it's good that tests are "easier" from what I'm hearing. Why? Because I tried to pass the B licence on GT4, when I was 10 or 11. That was horridly difficult for a young kid like myself back then. It almost turned me away from the game entirely (since the test was the only way I could get a car since I accidentally sold the first one I had).

You could get over a second under gold on first try in many license tests, so yes, they are very easy. But I don't think easy is the same as "dumbed down". I think so far (just got I-A) the career mode has been better in 6 than in 5.

Those license times are going to be nerfed down quite a bit as the patches roll in. They are insanely easy now for to not chase away first-time customers, but I would hazard a guess that in about 6 months some of these licenses will be insanely hard to gold.

The car rewards for getting all gold in the tests, do they change? I got the junior kart and an Alfa Mito for 'golding' the 1st licence.

Personally, I don't care if the License tests are easy, License tests don't prove anything and i'm glad they are easy. Only just finished the IB of career, so far pretty dull but not expecting much from career mode anyway as GT4 was the only GT game with a decent career mode.

Shhhh! We don't want PD coming up with a patch making it all harder, now do we?
Licenses are (and always have been) a pain at the best of times, so lets keep'em easy now, shall we? :P

Not a fan of stars awarded to measure how far you have until the next level is unlocked, kinda reminds me of the psychological validation of banana stickers.
