Everybody knows homework sucks, I should be doing my pre calculus right now. But if you think, it gives you time by yourself, which is something I value. There is still the fact that you need to show unnecessary work and time on something you would rather spend with friends, food, another hobby, maybe even gran turismo.

To make it suck less, I want to know what anyone else does to make it not as bad. As of now, I have pandora on the Witchcraft channel so I can listen to all my favorite Sabbath-inspired bands, along with a bag of beef jerky, but that isn't enough to make me enjoy it.

Does anyone know how to make this an enjoyable experience?

Do it with a hot girl.

Make what you will of that.

If only I had a hot girl who wanted to come over while I do my homework. Don't think I'd get it done though, what a distraction! Damn good one though...

Hmmn, homework, the bane of any schoolboys life. I hate it as much as anyone else, however I do see its point in preparing you for working life, with deadlines and independant work.

Its still a pain in the bum though when you have essays to write. :(

I guess a hot girl is the answer to anything, other than a gay problem.

As long as you're not trying to divide by 0 , then i'm sure you will be just fine....

On a serious note though , homework is just a small chore in life . Enjoy being at school as you will miss it when you leave . I couldn't find anything to make homework more interesting , I just did it as fast as I could.

Exactly. I can agree that it is helpful to a point, but if I could have an epiphany and realize how to make it a happy thing to do, I could apply that to most things that I don't look forward to do, even want to do, and make them seem less malicious.

Yeah. It's something you have to put up with.

Music homework however. We don't learn in Music lessons anyway...

I never did any, thankfully my dad agreed that school was for work & that I shouldn't be expected to work at home after being at school all day; I mean c'mon I have never, in my adult working life, been asked to go home and work more after a long day of doing just that... it's unfair to ask kids to do it, haven't they got enough on their plates as it is?!

And Sabbath+jerkey+hot girls= WIN :)

Well, not all homework suck. At least homework of the few subjects I liked when I was in school weren't all that bad.

Even now in college I have assignments that suck, but some of them are quite enjoyable.

But, yeah, I've never found a "magic formula" to make homework that suck, not suck. I just had to deal with them

I already work as well, only in 10th grade. I still never gear the end of me being a slacker, even after my sister (20 now) skipped most of highschool, didn't work, and came home late at night stoned all the time. Might go to the grinds your gears thread for that though.

Exactly. My girlfriend likes my music, definitely a win there. Oh yeah, and loves beef jerky.

"Does homework really suck?"

Everybody knows homework sucks

I really don't like homework...but I know it is usefull.
I'm a good student (pretty good actually :D) but I'm really lazy to study. I put in front of me and 5 minutes later:
1 - fall asleep on the book
2 - stare at pages like if my brain has stopped
3 - watch TV or move on and not givin a s**t for that

So homework makes me read the book, search, practise, while not feeling the boredom of pure study.

What makes me wonder is that teachers hate to have school stuff to do at home, no time for family, go to bed to late because of it, bla bla bla...
But some of them just throw up homework on us...it's like "TIME FOR REVENGE "

So small doses of homework only make good things to us...

BUT I HATE IT ANYWAYS

So...it's time...to do homework :grumpy:

BTW to make homework less bad the only solution I find is not doing it :dopey:

True, but nit doing homework shows up online on my school's website, then I have my parents to whine about it and ground me for not doing a 5 point assignment. :(

Do it, and do it with great enthusiasm, bring to the forefront your thirst for knowledge, for it is this that sets us apart from the animals.

Also, doing homework increases knowledge and ability to self-motivate and figure stuff out for yourself... and it is this that sets us apart from chav-benefit-scum.

You see, I'm lucky, and all of this year I've only had two teachers that give homework, and one left. So that's one class for homework. And Eugene, I mean my math's teacher doesn't really care if you don't do it. But now it's problematic because I need to focus on completing my graphics work at home, and I can't keep focused. I've always had a short attention span. :dopey:

Well I do homework/studying in chunks of time. For example I have 2 midterms tomorrow but stressing it while doing it is counter productive.

I'll study for a half hour or so and then a break, maybe grab some food, watch something or whatever and then back to it. I just recycle that until I'm done.

The average attention span of a person is about 20 mins so if I feel myself starting to lose interest or I'm rereading the same thing many times then it's time for a break.

Most helpful post. Thank you.

When I do homework I put on music and instantly I get motivated, depending on the tone of the music. There wasn't really a time where the opposite happened, so I relied on music to help me with homework. In addition, my homework is usually just a worksheet, study for a test/quiz, or read a certain section in a student-issued textbook.

I've never dislike or hated homework, except for geography, but then I never liked geography in the first place.... But I will say, without homework, you have no idea of deadlines. Also, it allows you to catch up with the work you should have done in the classroom, were it not for the idiots and wasters that make up half the class....

They just want to copy off my paper, never to do it with me. :grumpy:

But yea.. I'm supposed to be typing a 5 page page about the Islamic Empire in the 11th & 12th century for AP World History right now.

A few weeks ago my wife spent twelve and a half straight hours revising one paper. That doesn't include the additional six hours last week or the countless hours in the months preceding... :scared:

To me, it's an inescapable fact that homework always has and always will suck. But I find that if I do it somewhere that's not home, like my school's library, I concentrate better and it goes by faster, so you spend less time doing something that sucks. It barely qualifies as even a silver lining, but every little bit helps...

There's a few people like that I know too and I just know I, couldn't do it. I need my breaks lol

Homework in high school was utterly pointless and I rarely did it, I spent most of my time working on our newspaper staff anyway. Once I started attending the university homework got even less useful, I mean seriously reading some book and writing a 10 page paper on whatever the teacher wanted to hear? Granted I did learn all my BS skills that way.

Once I started my core classes towards my degree I didn't mind writing papers or studying because it was all on a topic I really liked. It's so much easier to have to read 200 pages of text in two days if you actually like it. Although my Historical Archaeology course was a bit rough, I seriously wrote a 30 page paper on Mason Jars. Mixed in with the core classes were still a few gen eds which I took but never showed up for class except for the mid term and final, I didn't deem is useful.

Word of advice for younger people still in high school, do not study the way I did

Homework for me is either interesting, like the aviation-related stuff, super easy, like English and Psychology and most other gen eds, or dreadfully time-consuming and annoying difficult, like pretty much every math class ever. The basic stuff I've seen before is alright, but new stuff that I haven't is terrible. It takes me a very long time to become fluent at new procedures, so the amount of time required for my math homework makes me want to explode.
