Does the pre-race warm up actually do anything?

As title.

- Should we be driving the warm up in a way that actually puts heat into the tyres?

- If there is no tyre wear in a race, do they actually get warmer? How can you tell?

Currently it seems the only reason to do the warm up is to avoid the bug that resets gearing and puts the wrong tyres on.

I think it’s just to familiarise yourself with the car and the track.

I use it sometimes when I switch a car for a certain event but I CBA to set a qualifying time with it again. So I just go afk and wait for the warm up period, then drive the car a bit to get a feel for it.

I think it’s main purpose is that.

The warm up lap locks in your traction control settings and other options, and gets your tires warm with more grip at the beginning of the race. Do it.

I find it a waste of time tbh. You can't even complete a lap on most of the tracks.

If I don't run the warm up lap, I get smoked in the first couple turns, I can't keep up with the other drivers and tend to drift wide forcing my to let up to stay on the track. That's my experience. When n I warm up I get a faster start.

Is there any indication of tyre temperature in HUD? I can see tyre wear but no temp.
The outline will turn red indicating that they are overheating when you lose it with them but outside of that, I don't think the game ever indicates their temperature. I haven't seen any evidence that tire temperature is even simulated beyond that. They just seem to have a really basic grip level that's tied to their HP gauge.

When tires are brand new they have a light-blue halo indicating they are cold.
I noticed that on the N200 oval Daily, the right rear would get the blue halo after a few laps.
Not sure the warm-up actually does anything though, except overcome the bug that will give you the wrong tires if you don't at least sit in the pits for the warm-up.

It really shows me how many people are in the race, a good observation of the track. Makes me know how many automobiles need passing, and how many corners to do it

Seems to be an opportunity for some to assert their AUTHORITAH :D I now view it as a source of amusement watching the lil muppets fighting on each corner as if their lives depended on it :lol:
