After just avoiding a spinning Viper, they got punted and knocked me off the road. I received a 10 second penalty. There was no way to avoid this as it all happened so quickly.

I love this game so much, but sometimes it makes me cry.:lol::lol::banghead::banghead::banghead: The penalty system is still not great, but it usually is better than this. Hopefully they will continue to tweak on it, I don't want this happening in the FiA races!

It got me thinking though, does this game need more ghosting? Upon watching the replay, I was so surprised to see that the Viper did not ghost.

I don't want more ghosting because it ruins the realism in my opinion, however it becomes ever so more infuriating when people drive with "ARCA brakes" and ruin your day all the time.

This is the horrible penalty that quickly ended any chance I had to bounce back after a bad qualifying time

Usually cars that get hit like that are ghosted, usually...

The game needs more and less ghosting. Ghosting gets massively abused in T1 at Monza, as well as inviting people to serve penalties anywhere they want as they get ghosted. However it's totally unpredictable when they go solid again, directly after the penalty time depletes.

Cars that get hit or are too slow / too fast / at the wrong angle on the track, those should be ghosted. If you dive too fast into a turn hoping to ghost through like in T1 Monza, the game should simply reset you before the turn to stop that behavior.

Cars should not be able to become unghosted if they have a car within a certain set distance around them.

I don't think I mind either way, as long as it is consistent.

Having absolutely no ghosting would (hopefully) teach everyone to be more aware and to slow down to avoid other cars. Also, I would appreciate mandatory and actually useful Racing Etiquette video on this too.

Having more ghosting, if it is consistent, detracts from realism but also stops these kinds of incidents.

But either way, as long as it is predictable what the game will do, I don't mind.

Also, I feel like the 10 second penalty here is further proof of this game not being 100% ready for FIA Seasons (see other thread)

Since the latest update the game can‘t even decide if it wants to ghost a car or not, in the last few days I‘ve seen ridiculous amounts of cars that glitched into each other it‘s amazing...
This also caused a bit of trouble in my Manufacturers Cup race at Dragon Trail on Wednesday, a car glitched into me and was then spun off into the wall

The screenshot is from a lobby but it‘s the same in Sport Mode

Absolutely yes! I think if there’s a greater speed differential than 20km/h between two cars, they need to ghost if they were to come together. Because if there’s a greater speed difference than that, that’s no longer racing, that’s somebody messing up(intentionally or not).

I just rage quit my first game ever, on the last lap about 200m from the finish line. The game is more broken than ever. The ghosting confuses people, and the penalties continue to ruin the game. People can't race close anymore because the slightest tap results in penalties, or now, people go invisible and reappear right in front of you. As an A+ driver, any contact whatsoever results in a penalty and more often than not it's minor contact that doesn't even effect either driver. PD is going backwards with this whole mess and it's driving people away from the game.

I agree with both points. I've never had a penalty like this before, so I'm not too worried... However, I hope to see another set of tweaks to the system before the FiA races officially get underway.

Ghosting I like - Backmarkers that try to block you

Ghosting I don’t like - everything else

Infact the one thing that currently doesn’t get ghosted that I would really like to see is when someone sharply turns the wheel on a straight ie. trying to hit your rear quarter to make you spin. If you suddenly sharply turn on a straight the car beside you should be ghosted. Many of my YouTube videos feature a car doing this in some way when they refuse to give up a lead.

It's so weird now when someone gets ghosted inside of you. You know that you have to separate cleanly in one swift movement as slowly edging out can risk a collision if either of you turn solid too soon. So it's this weird, game of chicken where you have to stay inside of each other because you're both on the line and are looking for an advantageous moment to break away.

I dont understand how you got a penalty. Did you clip his left rear bumper as you went by? He absolutely should have been ghosted IMO, he was a crash in progress. Apparently PD does not figure that you getting caught up in someone else's crash, hitting the wall, and coming to a dead stop is not enough of a penalty so they throw 10 seconds on just to make absolutely sure the last car is far out of your reach.

Dunkin' Donuts?

That does suck. That penalty is salt in the wound. I don't really want more ghosting in the game, but I think we could do with smarter ghosting. There are times where it works perfectly to ensure cars don't ruin the race for others, but it's not nearly consistent or reliable enough to count on. I always try to drive around ghosted cars like I would if they were solid, 'cause I never know when I might catch them at just the wrong moment
