Does this require firmware 5.55 or 6.00?

I know a 6.00 update comes included with the game and I saw some articles that said 6.00 is needed to run the game, but I remember seeing some posts here a week or so ago saying you only need 5.55 to run the game. Who's right?

Yeah, but I'm asking because I still have custom firmware 3.03 OE-A since I haven't used my PSP for anything but music since 2007. With this version I can't update directly to official firmwares (it won't allow you to). If I downgrade first to 1.5 there's a risk of bricking my PSP so I'd rather take no risk and download a custom 5.55 if I can since there is no custom 6.00 yet.

Just picked up my copy a couple of hours ago and it comes with FW 5.55 on the UMD.
btw I'm not sure where they got the 15 min install to MS from the UMD from?? mine took just under an hour to istall :(

Awesome, thanks. Now I can just download a custom 5.55 although at the same time maybe I should still downgrade to 1.5 and get the official 5.55 before I go past a possible point of no return. I don't even use homebrew stuff (or the PSP at all really) so it won't really affect me if I do anyway.

Is there no CFW 5.55? I am still running 4.71 and had no reason to change until now. I was going to install the OFW update off the UMD and then just do the magic memory stick trick to go back to CFW when I wanted a change from GTPSP.

Anyone got a link to a CFW 5.55 download?

No not yet anyway. This is why I used 5.50 gen b with the game decrypter tool. Aslong as you have a ms >= size of iso you should be fine.

If you are going to buy the game from PSN it will force you to update to 6.1. I logged into the PS Store from my PSP tonight and it forced the upgrade. If you want to stick to earlier firmware and the UMD will let you then buy the UMD.

Thanks! I will give it a go when the game shows up today or tomorrow. If I have problems do you mind if I shoot you a pm?

Mine came with and required 5.55 but instead I kept my CFW and used this: http://www.psp-hacks.com/2009/09/29/yoshihiros-5-55-6-00-games-decrypter-released/

To do this you need the UMD right? I'm not sure if I follow the instructions. Do you need copy the disc as an ISO on your computer? I don't have the game right now (getting it tomorrow) but I'll be able to do that later. But with this way does the game run off your memory stick once everything is done?

Any more details would be appreciated.

...people are still saying this. I would think the article would be more accurate but does anyone else have other solid info on it?

Yes I can also confirm it, 5.55 is fine.

I bought a copy of the game on umd. I tried playing it on my 5.50 gen b cfw but it refused wanting to work on >= 5.55. It doesn't actually make use of a specific part of firmware only available in 5.55 but sony just wants us to be up to date so they make it detect and abort for no reason.

I then used my psp to make an iso file of the game. An iso file is like a virtual disc in a way as a single file but contains all the other files within it. It is a kind of archive like zip, rar, tar etc. This iso like the original umd refuses to boot too but now as file it is modifiable.

I Took a specific file from the iso image. Ran a tool on that file. Put the file back into the iso replacing the original. Then I tried the iso and this time it didn't mind that I had 5.50 rather than 5.55. The useless check is bypassed.

Aye, wouldn't want you to be forced to actually go out and buy the game instead of downloading it. If you knew anything about PSP "homebew", you would know that any PSP (except the new Go) can be easily unbricked.

Actually, I have the game preordered and I'm picking it up today. Next time learn to read instead of suggesting people are doing illegal activities. As for the unbricking, I'd rather not have to buy a new battery and deal with all those complications.

so I just tried running this decryptor and it said 'press x to decrypt your eboot.bin" so I did and it said 'not found' and now I am stuck at that. I can't back out or get out of that screen. I think I have been bricked.
