Toyota Dome M101-86 GT300 2015

Yet another competition version of the Toyota GT86/Subaru BRZ was revealed just before the Suzuka 1000km, this time it is the long awaited Dome version built to the new GT300 ‘mother chassis’ rule book. The build of the first car has been funded by the Super GT organisers GTA, which is keen to see the widespread use of its new ‘mother chassis’ concept.

The concept, similar to that used in DTM and GT500 sees the cars all share a number of common components including the chassis, and allows small teams to develop unique cars at a low cost. It is a direct reaction to the increasing use of GT3 cars in Asia, where the are accepted as GT300 cars in both Super GT and GT Asia. The ‘mother chassis’ concept is designed to create cars as fast as GT3 at a lower cost and giving teams more freedom.

Dome’s GT86 is officially called the M101-86 and is used as a showcase for a full catalogue of off the shelf parts available from GTA, this includes a Nissan derived V8 engine, and Toda racing transmission. But it has been designed so that other power units including full EV’s can be accommodated. Though in GT300 trim hybrids are currently forbidden under the mother chassis rules.

The Dome-GTA M101-86 will make its race debut in Thailand in October during the Super GT race there where it will be run by Toyota Team Thailand, but it is reported that six mother chassis have already been purchased from GTA. From that point on cars built to the mother chassis rules will be able to compete in the GT300 class alongside the current JAF-GT300 cars and the GT3 cars already active in the class.
