Oh. Well, I've owned a car from every country that mass ships to the US except Korea, and I've personally enjoyed my imports more.

That said, I'd buy American in a second if they made something I wanted as much as I've wanted the imports I've bought.

That said, my next car will be American, and I'm psyched about owning it.

"Both."

Um, personally, it doesn't matter (and not just because I can't legally drive yet)... If a car is better, then that's where the money goes (though Doug is weird in that he sells his good cars a week after buying them). And please, non of the "Japanese cars have sooo much better quality than American cars"... for some companies, it's true, for some, it ain't. Our Subaru is maybe 2 years old, and all the cheap bits are falling off (seat latches, visor mirrors, cargo cover, etc. etc., as well as brakes that squeel. Our Ford Ranger has had its own fair share of quality problems-- Namely, the transmission was screwed several years after buying it, and my dad had to totally replace it.

Imports, domestics, does it matter? Using Doug's people perception, does it matter if an immigrant comes to you for work or an American-born? No, what matters is the quality of their work. Ditto cars.

I like Ford, as well as many German companies. So I said both.

Oh, and by Ford, I ment the whole family, so that includes the Mustang, GT40, as well as Jaguar, Aston Martin, etc.

That happened to me, too. I got it warranteed just before it expired. Man did I luck out.

I've only owned American cars, (Ford Bronco II, Olds Cutlass, Plymouth GTX) & the only cars I can see buying are American (But that became a vague term in recent years) My lady's PT Cruiser was built in Mexico. I'm looking to buy a Jeep for the coming winter. (I'm not putting my Cutlass through another one!)
Untill I win Lotto, I'll probably never own the "imports" I want, like the BMW M3, Modena 360, 3400 S..... You get the idea. Though I do respect Subaru, they just don't seem to die! And the WRX is a little sh**-kicker!

I'm on my second Jeep. The first was a '92 Cherokee Laredo and now I have a '98 Grand Cherokee Limited. My next vehicle will probably be another Grand Cherokee. I like the Liberty but it's too small for me.

Eh, the Liberty's too "cute" I'm looking at a Wrangler Sport 5-speed I-6.

The Liberty is still extremely competent offroad, as is the Wrangler. They also both hold their value extremely well. How old a Wrangler are you looking at? Or, new?

Get an '03 Freedom Edition. Totally overpriced, but who cares when they look so good?

The '98 was the last year of the boxy front end.

I like the current styling so much better.

And a Wrangler in Arizona isn't doable due to air conditioning concerns. 110+ for over a week now. But even with hard doors and top, a little too small for me.

I priced a new one on the Jeep site @ about $25,000 the way I want it. I could probably swing it, but I'm working on the GTX, paying for a RING. I might get a used one, model year-end sales are coming up...... Who knows.
I'm sure the Liberty is as capable as a Jeep should be, but the looks don't do it for me.

P.S. If I could find a '99 G.C. 5.9.......

Yes and no. They were all given minor re-designs for the 1996 model year which included a vague grille re-design; the one you posted is a 1992-1995.

I like the current styling so much better.

They were given an ever-so-slight update for 2004. Look for an all-new model late next year or early in 2005.

The 5.9 was a 1998-only option. Grand Cherokees were re-designed in 1999 to look like the current model, and they dropped what was termed the thirstiest Chrysler engine in 30 years.

I also would like a 5.9 Limited - the only distinctions from a normal '98 is pronounced hood openings and wheels. Otherwise it was discreet...

:D

I saw one the other day for sale - I was considering it, but the wheels weren't stock, basically destroying the point for the thing since the wheels were one of the defining features.

Keep in mind it's rated at 12 MPG.

12 MPG...... from an EFI 360?

Can't remember; I don't even know what the going rate is for those things. It was rated as 12/15 MPG, yep.

The power's OK, but not when compared to the MPG. I'm thinking with '98 tech., they should have gotten 300 HP for that gas mileage. Look at the Escalade (sp?); 6.0L, 345 HP & I think similar mileage to the Jeep. Granted, it's a totally new design, but still.....
