These days, especially in the Marketplace and the Online racing forum people regularly bump or needlessly double-post in their own threads. I have yet to see them be warned or anything. Is bumping acceptable in the Marketplace, as to keep your thread from being flooded by all the X2010 threads?

It isn't allowed, even in the Marketplace. Mods probably won't warn you in a thread.

I got warned for a bump, feel bad now.

We discourage it, and give out warnings. It's just that the holiday seasons have been hectic, so the moderators haven't been able to address all these problems as of late.

Just use the "report" button whenever you see a bump, and we'll give the guy a warning for it. We only give out infractions if they bump excessively even after being warned.

Untrue. I was given an infraction after bumping a post only one time.

You'll note that neither "double posting" nor "bumping" are mentioned in the Acceptable Use Policy, because I don't usually have a problem with them and never really have. It's up to each individual staff member to determine when a user has crossed the line of abuse.

For example, double-posting is perfectly acceptable if you have new information to add to a topic which may have aged or expired since you last posted in it. New information in a topic rightfully needs to push it back to the top of the forum while bringing it to the attention of anyone subscribed to the thread. Double-posting out of laziness, however, is frowned upon and could certainly lead to a warning.

I understand why someone may want to bump their marketplace or OLR thread. The temporal nature of these very fast-moving forums means that an entirely different and possibly interested group of people could easily miss your topic, which may only stay on the first page for a short time. While gentle bumping, say once per day or so, is not really a problem, regular bumping every few hours is not acceptable and will be considered abuse.

Understand, that's not 'I bump lots of posts, and this one got an infraction the first time.'

That is 'I had never bumped a post before and got an infraction first time I did it.'

See the sticky thread in the Marketplace.

You're unlikely to see another user getting warned as the infraction system occurs entirely between the staff and that user.

You made a post you knew was useless in a forum which has a sticky thread telling you what will happen to that kind of useless post three hours after your previous one. The prompt moderator action has stopped you from doing it again, right?

Where's the issue?
