I know how you always push the VW Corrado and well I'm thinking of buying one. I found one a couple of miles from my house I'm going to look at over the weekend. All I know of right now is that it has 88k on it and the guy wants 8000 for it. Also its a 5spd with a new clutch. So can you give me some help?

What year is it? If it's a '92, is it the SLC (VR6) or is it the G60 (I-4)?

$8k is a good price for any Corrado manufactured with a six-cylinder engine. If it is a G60 model, $8k is a ripoff. I must know more in order to give more advice! Tell me what happens when you go over to the fellow's place this weekend, I'd be really interested to find out more! :D

definately have a mechanic look at it. try and find someone that knows the car well. also research more. dont go buy the first car you find. if you want a corrado, see if you can find others in your area and how they compare.

12sec. Civic: This price is merely average for '93's.

I agree on having a mechanic check it out - always a great idea before buying a used car. This appears in good condition - 88,000 miles is slightly less than average for an SLC, but the price is fairly high - not for a '93, but for a VR6 (you could find a '92 SLC in the neighborhood of $6800). If money is no object, or at least if low money is no object, I would hold out and get a 1994 Corrado, rather than a '93 - they're more rare, but they're usually taken care of better. Canada got the Corrado in 1995, also, but those are rare, even in Canada.

Bottom line - certainly worth a look, but a '94 would, while more expensive, have more features and lower miles.

well I'm going to go look at it and see what its like. I'll let you know.

and thanks for the help...now I'm not going in completely blind.

I just got from looking at it and well it wasn't a bad car I just couldn't pay that much for it. It needed new breaks and it shifted kinda rough. I offered hime 7000 for it but he wouldn't take it ha said no less the 8000. I said "thanks anyway" and left. Not a horriable car but just to much money for me to spend on it. I'll keep looking though.

Also what about a Golf? I don't know anything about them really but I've heard there nice little compacts. Any info on those?

And a VW Schirrocko (not sure on spelling)? Ever heard of it?

Hey Street!

I have owned both a VW Scirocco and a Golf GTI. They were both great cars and I had alot of fun in them. Both of them were 1988 models. That was one of the final years for production of the Scirocco as the Corrado was it's succesor. Fun car, 16V 4-cyl. engine. Had some good pep to it but the car ended up costing me a bit of money in the long run. Nothing major happened to it, just a lot of little tiny problems. The only issue that I had with the car was the interior. The dashboards in the Scirocco seemed to have a problem with cracking and the overall fit and finish of the rest of the interior I was not all that happy with. The Golf GTI, also with a 16V 4cyl. had great pep and was a blast to drive as well. The interior of this car was a bit better than the Sciroccos. I never had any issues with this car and it ran like a dream!
All in all, I have nothing but fond memories of both of those cars but as the Scirocco is getting on in years I would defiately have it checked out by your mechanic. I'm not sure about the Scirocco as it's no longer in production but the Golf has plenty of aftermarket parts available to it for reasonable prices. VW's are easy cars to work on and there potential performance gains are amazing.
Good luck with whatever you find, but make sure to have any car you look at checked out by a mechanic.

Boom

I like how the old school golfs look. I havent done much research on them, so i dont know the year or generation, but the old golfs that had grills reminiscent of an E30 BMWs really look sweet. They were quick and very light. MAybe some engine swaps were possible. But I know that making 180hp NA wasnt too much of a problem. 180 in a car so light is very quick. Not drag racing street racing quick, but track quick.

I have a magazine I will look this stuff up in tonight. I might actually find one of these cars as a daily driver and winter car. I dont care much about being able to waste others in drag races, and I love the 80s style of many german cars, so this would be a good choice for me as well.

Also, street racer, you might want to consider an E30 bimmer. I am also looking at some of those for a winter car. They look sweet, are great track cars, and can be quick (RWD is a definate plus). Also bimmers are incredibly reliable and a bit classier.

An M3 is out of your price range, but not some of the other models. Im not sure about the older 3 series suffixes, but a 325 or 318 should be around $6-7k.

I have a ton of links to let you know more about the cars, and what some nice one can look like. For now checkout e30sport.net.

Thanks advanR and I'll look into the Bimmer and see what I can find.

Street,
For the money you're looking to spend, you might be able (if you are patient and lucky) to find a well kept early 6-series Bimmer.
I love the old 635CSi. The last T-Bird was a "knock off" on it.

Adding on to what Boom said... the Scirocco was built in Brazil. It was a decent car at the time, but even the latest model year is fourteen years old - they're cheap, but examples are just too tired to be considered seriously anymore. The Scirocco ended production in 1988 and the Corrado began production in 1990 in this country (1988 in Europe) with its four-cylinder engine (supercharged). The six-cylinder was used for most 1992's and all 1993's and 1994's. As I said, Canada received the 1995 model (because of the US's airbag restrictions) but the car was cancelled all over the world in 1995. There has not been a true Volkswagen coupe since.

I just Googled for that 635CSi and......

That is one awesome looking car, and you were right about the last T-Bird being a "knock off" of it.
