Downside of LSD

What is the downside of fitting a LSD (any of them) to your car? I'm not with the game right now but I'm sure it says there is a downside to them(or something you must tune to accompany them) I haven't fitted one to any of my cars but what I REALLY want to know is do people generally fit one when upgrading their car in GT4?

It is easier to understand the LSD if you consider it a device that exchanges stability for (tighter) turning radius. The various fields concern that part of traction, acceleration, deceleration and overall. This is a simplistic view, as too little LSD can actually work to inrcrease turning radius; but it allows you to perdict changes and experement to learn to better understand its effect.

I don't like LSD's personally... I think that was after a bad experience of fitting one in GT2 modifying it and ruining my car but not knowing how to reset it back to average levels...

Can someone explain how you would use it and in what settings you would change to do what?

Cheers

Cheers, thats the sort of thing I was after. Its so much better to have a simplistic view like that so you can understand what needs tuning by driving it and picking up on the behaviour of the car.

Also off topic, how do you refresh car rigidity? I assumed it was automatic after you buy the 'Refresher Plan' for god know how much (50,000cr I think)

You buy it again.

And again.

And again.

He he. Thats a bit crap. When an item has a cross or a tick through it means you can't buy it (again)! But on this one only you can? Doesn't even say that anywhere! Plus as its called a Refresher PLAN I assumed it was an automated PLAN to put the rigidity back into your car every, say, 4 months. You know, like a payment plan!!

To start you want to test run a car you you have put the LSD on. If the car doesn't turn entering a corner well, reduce the deceleration effect, usually down from 20 to 17 or 15. This allows the rear of the car to become a little unstable and slightly come around during corner entry. Especially good for trail braking. The side effect of this is during throttle on coming out of the corner it turns better.
The initial torque determines how soon the LSD responds, especially during acceleration with the above settings. I typically raise it to 20, depending on the car. You can notice it during acceleration, if there is a slight delay of the throttle on turning, increase the initial torque. On extremely powerful cars modded up in the 1000's and rear wheel drive this may make oversteer a little more prominent, so good throttle control is needed.

Consider as downside, that the higher are the levels of accel, and decel,it will be more difficult to turn. But i have another question for someone who might have experimented .Is there a difference between a 1.5 way and a FL,on a medium powered FF car? (206 RC for example) I mean,is there a possibility that it will become harder to turn if it is equipped with an FL?Or the choice is just a matter of their costs, and settings?

Would you tune your suspension before messing with the lsd?
Only with fully tuned cars, and actually the LSD can help with corner entry and exit as much as suspension in most cases. In tight races, or underdog races, such as manufacturer races with older inferior cars the first mod I apply is LSD and this makes such an impact, in many cases is the only mod needed. It has minimal if any effect on the Aspec of the race. For instance in special conditions I ran all of the road rallies and 1st two wet courses with an Elise with chip and LSD.
