I drove/drifted with the Dpad for the first year and a half that I had GT3. I could drift well if I got lucky but it was very hard to counter steer correctly. It took a little adjusting but the analog sticks are better in every way; don't bother with the Dpad anymore you will get much better once you get used to sticks. But if you can afford it, a wheel is far better than the sticks.

Me!!!! I use the Dpad. I like it.
I tried to use analog but I can't countersteer well. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
The only thing you have to do with the Dpad is control the pressure you make with your finger. And that's all.

I USE THE BUTTONS and the CONTROL PAD.... my friend makes fun of me.... OH WELL... i drift fine with the control pad.... once you learn how to use the pressure sensitve touch of like a human hair (lol) you will find its simple.
NO for real i simply cant use those sticks for any game.... ok im lying i use them on hockey cause the player is constantly moving around and its easier on my thumb..... stop me if i ramble........

It all depends on what you're used to. I always used the analog stick on psx while playing with mah bro, who used a really old controller which didn't have analog sticks. So now i always use either a steering wheel or the analog controller and my bro always uses the Dpad when playing GT3.

Additionally, it is possible to drift with the dpad if you're used to it... someone who has always used the analog stick probably has a hard time when trying to drift with the dpad.

i use d-pad...not even pressure sensitive. it is possible, and the drifts are clean. just takes A LOT OF PRACTICE. used the RX-7 FC from the drift guide setup and drove it 3 hours a day, every day. i spun out and cussed at my ps2...but whithin 2 weeks i can now setup, tune, and drift just about any car i buy :mischievous: only thing i have left to master is FF drift..i have too much fun with the FR and MR cars and i end up never practicing with the FF :banghead: ill be making a few videos this summer, i have some good ideas. just need someone near me who can twin drift :irked:

yes the d-pad can work IF you practice ALOT, but i grown to use the analog because it seems it can counter-steer better. and it wont HURT:irked:! after a long times use

I think this might be a long long discussion (like tyres one).
For those who say Dpad can't countersteer well, I drifted in Complex String II all the corner countersteering (first hairpin in license test you do with a Mine's Skyline). I did it with a 200SX type X.
If you want me to upload it(or if you don't believe me), just tell me.

As long as we keep it civil then there shouldn't be any problems. Like I said before I used to only use the Dpad, through GT1 GT2 and most of GT3, and thought that the sticks were no good. But I did a few tests and found that you could adjust the wheels faster with the sticks. After I got a wheel it didn’t really matter anymore, but it kinda sucked cus I couldn’t really do anything close with the Dpad, to what I was doing with the Wheel. Throughout GT3 I tired switching to the sticks a few times but I just kept on going back to the Dpad cus I felt more comfortable with it.

I finally made it to the sticks, and I think with a little practice they will allow everyone to drift FR better than with the Dpad. For AWD well, it wont make that much of a difference. Now I’m not saying people that use the Dpad can’t drift, cus I know they can, I’m just saying with the same amount of practice they would be better if they used the sticks.

On the other hand a non pressure sensitive Dpad might actually be beneficial. Every single drift replay that I have ever seen when the driver is using the controller, Dpad or Sticks, they almost always go from no counter steer to full counter steer and rarely anything in between. So it would be easier to do this with a non pressure sensitive Dpad. Anyways I doubt this will change anyones mind, if you like the Dpad you will probably stick with the Dpad. I know if someone told me to use the sticks for acceleration and braking I wouldn’t switch. It’s Just my opinion. :)

I didn't wanted to be hard in my answer.
If I did, sorry. (I think discussion wasn't the correct word, argument maybe???). This happens because I'm not english.

I’m not exactly sure why you are apologizing. “Discussion” made perfect sense. Maybe you misunderstood what I was saying?

Your English is actually very good, a lot of people that post here live in the US; English is their first language, and they don’t make nearly as much sense as you do.

Just for this.

Oh okay I get it. That wasn’t directed at you. With the discussion about the tires a few people got angry, or just said some stupid things, so I was just saying there wont be any problems as long we just give our opinions calmly with out any of these . I was just agreeing with you that it could get out of hand, like the tire discussion, if we are not careful :) . Sometimes people read something that they don't agree with, and flip out and just start saying that everyone else sucks.

Well I was going to post an example of what I mean, but I thought it might start another flame war I’ll PM it to you.
