drafting

I noticed this too. I draft others cars and it almost seems like nothing happens. I don't know whether or not it's realistic though. I'm really used to the stronger and more noticeable draft in GT games.

I thought the drafting was quite strong in this game. Hardly ever have a problem closing up on someone using draft as long as the top speeds aren't way different

you mean Stock cars (those on ovals) or factory stock cars?

IRL on a normal sports car drafting effect is pretty minimal until very high speed. Race anything with forza aero package though you feel it more, on indy etc there is a noticable difference.

I also feel it is weak and that's cause it is very noticeable in GT4 and GT5. But then again, I also wonder if Forza is more realistic and the GT games made it too strong.

I think that (A) It's very slightly weaker than it should be, and (B) GT5 was way over the top. If you're used to GT, it will seem almost non-existent in FM.

Even in F1 with DRS you don't get the crazy boost that you find in GT5.

Disclaimer: My GT5 days were done pre 2.0 so I don't know if they toned it down :)

I was talking about the NASCAR style stock cars. It should close up faster than it does. Benchmark test track it seems like it takes forever to get enough speed to close up good. If u put max downforce on your will that help? Or the game not that realistic?

Slipstreaming is too weak in Forza, to the point where its effects are almost negligible. GT5 is too far the other way. A realistic slipstream effect would be somewhere in between I guess, although more to the Forza end of the scale.

Keep in mind that this varies massively from car to car, and the speeds involved are also taken into account. Cars with significant aerodynamics in the R classes get a big boost. "Normal" bodied cars see a smaller benefit. Drafting at 150mph is more beneficial than drafting at 100mph, regardless of aero setup. It works well and makes sense overall, imho.

I was trying to find some real-world numbers to which one could compare. I did run into this article:
http://www.nascar.com/news/110123/preseason-thunder-speeds-not-concerning/index.html

Unfortunately, the more I scrolled through it, the more "blah blah" I saw and not a lot of real-world numbers and physics. At any rate, as near as I can tell from what I was able to read before my mind fell asleep, they experienced a drafting speed difference of +14 MPH versus qualifying speeds. Now, from what I've read on another article somewhere, these sorts of speed boosts seem to come from bump-drafting specifically and not simply by lining up a short distance behind another car, so presumably the act of simply drafting (not bump-drafting) would yield smaller speed boosts. The article says that drafting speeds were expected to be just 5 MPH higher than the speeds set when running solo, so if that's what the experts expected, that's probably more along the lines of the speed boosts one should expect when drafting (not bump-drafting).

Now we need someone to run around Sunset Peninsula Speedway and see what sorts of speeds they get when solo, and then do it again drafting and see if the speeds are about 5 MPH faster.
