I went online recently and have had alot of fun drag racing. But some of these cars are just tuned amazingly. Now I know noone wants to share their exact drag tuning secrets but can someone enlighten me on what to worry about when tuning, how adding or subtracting from gears changes the speed and so on. Just the basics so I can enjoy tuning and racing on my own...PS I'm mainly interested in dragging FR cars, if that makes a difference.

So are you dragging 1/4 mile (Indy Road) or whole mile drags (SSR7)?

1/4 mile indy. and I've been messing around with 400-700 hp street cars (rx-7, gnx, etc.) not really wanting to drag cars I wouldn't normally see at a track (zondas, veryons, etc.)

I use my Enzo on Indy and manage to beat 4WD cars. Some general tips:

~ Spoilers don't help on drags. Set them to minimum or remove them if possible
~ Sometimes starting off in 2nd or 3rd would be better than first. In my Enzo, I start in 3rd and don't need to shift until I get to around 100mph. Very useful :D
~ First few gears should be as long as possible to leave others short for acceleration.
~ Suspension is different for every car and their drivetrain. But the deciding difference is the ride height, spring rate and dampers.

That's quite the extreme spinning. You should be able to have traction in that car by 85.

Kind of correct but not really. You have to know how the car takes to that. Once you know where the power band is, you'll realize that long gears don't always help.

Hmm, no.

Spinning, yes. But it works. Even when TCS is available I'm faster smoking off the line than working my way up from 1st.

1st and 2nd is long because I don't use them. Like I said I start in third and geared it just right so I don't hit the limiter and shift nicely and cleanly into 4th. By the time I did this I'm already ahead of whoever I'm racing. Unless they are Quattro, ZZII and sometimes some hardcore tuned Skylines :)

Explain? Toe in and alignment might have minor changes but the race is won or lost on those three components.

Accept my friend request and run me. My Enzo isn't tuned for quarter yet, but if I see you online, I'll tune it in 10 minutes.

Actually, spoilers for Indy are actually quite good. It's not like SSR7 where you're doing 250mph+. I suggest looking for a member called Jellybird12 and see his Viper's. He's always at Indy so I suggest seeing his cars with the massive amount of downforce he has fitted.

Spoilers do ****. Ran it both ways, made zero difference. No spoiler helped the trap a bit.

Like I said, go see Jellybird. He has his Indy Vipers cars set with spoilers and it's got nothing to do with trap speed, it's to do with launch out of the hole. His '99 GTS is testament to it, I've seen it smash GT-R Spec-V's constantly!! You were even in a room with him the other day articzap, so you should already know who I'm talking about (I couldn't get in because the room was full).

If it was SSR7 then I'd laugh at them for having a spoiler, but at Indy you're not doing more than 170mph on most occasions.

Every room I've been in so far I've taken out every ACR I've been matched against. Some by a lot, some by a little. Trust me when I say the wing doesn't have any effect until you should have already had traction anyways. 👍

He doesn't even use the ACR, he said that's his Level 5 car, after you whip his '99 GTS, '02 GTS, '03 SRT-10 & '06 SRT-10 COUPE. You don't need to take my word for it, I already gave the username, find him and see how you go against him. ;)

I bet you any money it has more to do with gear progression over anything else.

It's purely launch bro, he has absolutely zero wheelspin in comparison to anyone else and it could be gear ratios, but I feel it's the spoiler on this occasion. Whatever it is though, he has it completely nailed down, better than anyone I've seen at either Indy or SSR7.

Well if I run into him I'll be sure to run him.

Was just in a room with him. He had a V-Spec and I beat him with my Quattro. Don't remember him using a Viper tho. I'll look out for him next time.

Huh, you should always start in first gear, as far as i know, the more gears you use, the more close geared transmission you get = high rpm all the time = fast acceleration.

Second, people saying there is a delay in the ds3 controller when you pressing the buttons, and there is less delay in the "steering" wheels with pedals, thats why some people will always be faster....some migh have better reaction also.

in the tunnel, launching in 1st is good on most cars

for the 1/4, i think most high hp rwd cars run better from 2nd or 2rd... i maybe wrong as i havent done the 1/4 much

Since first gear must be long enough, and the others shorter for better acceleration, you can just shorten 2-5 gears even more for 1/4 mile. I run the same first gear omn both my tunnel cars and 1/4 mile indy ones.

i tried using 1-5 instead of 2-6 in the 1/4 on one of my cars and it got slower, may just be the setup

i do mostly the tunnel and from time to time i get bored and go to 1/4
