I've already searched and couldn't find any similar thread, but even if there was, I thought this was a interesting topic.

So here it is, if you had an unlimited amount of money, what car would you buy and what would you do with it. I'll start:

1970 Camaro RS
with the split bumper, extended nose, and 3-piece tall spoiler.

Year One 5 spoke rally wheels

Hotchkis sport suspension

T-56 six speed transmission, full engine rebuild with performace cam, heads, and carb.

finally the color...
pace blue, a chevy colorado paint code.

top that off with grey factory style stripes with a surrounding red pinstripe with a matching red pinstripe around the lips of the rims.

I will eventually build this car when the money is right.

Post your dream builds.

I'd be tempted, with unlimited capital, to build my own car from the ground up. I'd build (or rather, have built for me), an steel chassis (extra strength and noise isolation) designed to support a mid-front engine. The engine would be a large-displacement V12, naturally-aspirated, making around 500HP hooked up to an 8- or 9-speed automatic transmission. The body would be a grand touring coupe with a long nose, a short deck, and curves in all the right places (styled by myself). It would be a folding-hardtop design, so I could look good in all weather conditions! Inside, it would have room for 2 in the most luxurious surroundings known to automobile-dom. It'd have shiny chrome wheels, a soft, floaty suspension designed for comfort over sportiness, and an awesome stereo. And it would be a metallic cherry red.

In short, a laid-back cruiser best suited for long-distance continent-crossing. :)

There are a few builds I wanted to do just because they're purely awesome...

First: I saw this a couple nights ago roaming the vast interwebs. This guy fully restored and did a matte-black finish on a 1969 GTO Judge clone and swapped the engine with a fresh new LS1. The thing is a monster.

Second: Ive always wanted a rotary, ever since the day I saw one at a local auto show I've been hooked. The other half came from my love for the old Mk.2 Escorts which I've always seen super rallyed-out and the sort, until this one I saw a couple months back shown to me by a friend.

I've always wanted to build a ae86 hatchback that I could use as a daily driver.
Sport suspension, mild engine upgrades, and 17 inch rota rb's.

Smart hayabusa. Now most cars I'd have if I had unlimited money would be worthy of "build" title but the one with the most extensive mods and most change would be the smart. Also, v8 prius or one with and RB26 and a 2 step so I can spit flames at a Prius owners club meeting or something like that.

With a supercharged Lexus 1UZ-FE 4.0L V8:

Add some recaro seats and Takata harnesses:

And a set of O.Z. Leggenda wheels:

Add big Brembo brakes, a full roll cage, sport suspension, and upgraded engine componets. Wrap it all up with a TRD red paintjob.

And you've got yourself a sweet classic ride to attack the track with!

I would assemble a group of designers and tell them to design a car to my specs, then choose the best they come up with.

For the mechanics I would only specify "I want a car that has semi-auto and auto mode, as well as three modes for general behaviour" (suspension, throttle response e.t.c.):
1. medium
2. fast
3. uncivilised

Last, I would require AWD with a button for RWD. Middle W16 engine, retractable hardtop and wing.

For a city car, I'd buy a classic Fiat 500, obviously restore every single part, put 0.9-litre Twin Air (that NA one, should be more than enough), upgrade cooling, suspension and brakes. Then, I'd repaint it with one of the original colours, but using some polishing and much thicker layers of paint.

Chevy S-10. Do a custom set of coilovers for it and convert the rear suspension into a 5 link. Lower the whole truck down about 7" below stock height. Drop a turbo charged LS2 motor rated at roughly 680hp and bolt to a 6 speed gearbox out of a Corvette. Run the wheels off a Z06 and put on a set of high performance, street legal tires. I'd also keep the air con, power steering, abs and install a TCS from one of the GM vehicles.

Sort of like this without the tires that stick out 12" from the body and the carbed engine:

Funny thing is I've been in the exact S-10 when I was on a FIRST robotics team in high school. We were sponsored by GM's truck division and it was always sitting in the corner of the garage. I really wanted to rip around the parking lot it in.

I'd probably buy an E28 M5, keep it completely original and drive it reguarly. I'd spend a lot of money getting it maintained at specialist dealers and possibly the engine etc bring rebuilt.

My recent idea is to take either a VW Polo MK3 Squareback or a Renault Twingo and put a mean engine behind the front seats, keep it look stock and then have alot of fun with it :)

WHy not the actual wheels that rota copied? With unlimited funds why settle?

I'd buy a 288 GTO or 2.

'69 Mustang Boss 429
Swap in a Ford 460 SVO Tall Block
Build it to an 806ci/13.1L gas engine (couple thousand horse, dragging only)
A ton of other stuff I don't car to list.

Build a truck into a power hungry daily driver thats a workhorse and a show off vehicle.

Drop this in it, mid-mounted:

Turn this into a full blown track car with suspension, transmission, internal engine and chassis, etc...

And these wheels with Nitto NT-01's:

Go from there.

If money was no object:

BMW 5 Series E39

Chop roof, convert to 2 door.

I would like the car to be kept very simple and clean, maybe M Sport bodykit (colour coded) in a Gunmetal Grey or just Jet Black. So it'd look like an M5 turned two door...maybe flared arches to accommodate the extra rubber but nothing too crazy.
Original M5 Wheels, but I'd make all split rimmed and extend the width to cover the larger tires.

Strengthen the chassis by making it out of Carbon-fibre, and then handcraft all the body panels out of a Carbon fibre-Kevlar mix.

Use an VR38DETT engine from the R35 GTR, also use transmission and drive train thus converting it into AWD (20/80). But at a touch of a button convert it to a RWD like in the BNR32 GTR. Make a custom butterfly exhaust system and try and mimic a V10 (if that's even possible :P and replicate a LFA type whine)

I'd develop a sophisticated, "Sport, Track and Race" traction control mode similar to Ferrari and invest into a lot of engine management and electronic programming to set the car up right, into various useable modes with the touch of a button.

Also develop a custom-made Suspension set up in partnership of a major manufacturer/developer KONI, Tein, Eibach, Bilstein etc...

I would strip out the rear seats, but again would design/develop my own custom luxury bucket seats like in the RS6 made by Recaro. I would like to use the BMW F10 5 series interior and chop it and somehow make it fit into the car so it looks sleek inside and out.

So I'll have a comfortable 2 seater road cruiser, but with the touch of a button it would become a total monster. Money no object, every single thing thought of; comfort, looks and performance.
Cost I'd imagine would be ridiculous and this is why it'd be a dream as many people would label me as crazy! Still, at least I'd have my own car, the way I like it. :)

And yes, my profile picture is an E39 (not mine) with a 2JZ-GTE Swap, so I did get a little inspiration from there. :P

I'd buy a 288 GTO or 2.

I don't know if wantanabe rims came in a wide 17" but I know anything bigger than that would probably look ridiculous on an 86.

Lada 2105 with modded Fiat 2.0 16vT, Dana 44 and VFTS running gear.

More rust, something like this 131

Fiat Ritmo gr2 1150cc with Dallara 16v head and kugelfischer mechanical injection on slide throttle bodies, ideally with custom pistons and shorter stroke crankshaft that would made about 88x47mm.

Gr2 everything and Campagnolo 8x13 wheels

Delta EVO II Blue Lagos or any other + Ritmo 125TC Black in OEM condition

Mazda RX-8 with 4 rotors tuned to about 550 HP, sequential shift (no paddles here!), DTM style body work and side exhaust would sound good (literally).

I would get a Datsun 510 and put a RB26DETT from the R34 with a custom 6-speed transmission and do major chassis reinforcement so the car can handle the punch from the engine.

A Corvair sedan with aluminum cylinders and an electric fan. Painted to match my Camaro and some Oldsmobile rally wheels.

V8-Twin-Turbo-2-1024.jpg

The vector v8 biturbo

But I would have a v16 supercharged turbo with a 4wd system and with about a 10L engine and with 1400 bhp.

A Corvette with a NASCAR engine in it would also be pretty sweet...
