So me and my friend had an argument over drift cars being FWD, or RWD. I said RWD but he won't believe me, so am I, or is he right?

Ask your friend to show you a video of a fwd drifting, not some lift off oversteer that can be corrected in a second.

RWD, unless you're referring to the "F" in FWD as four.. :P
Front Wheel Drive is ridiculously hard and near impossible.

So, neither of you know what kind of cars those are out there drifting? "Oh look at that FWD 4-rotor RX7 out there drifting!"

"Whispers" Its actually a rally car with the 787B engine and a fiberglass RX-7 shell over the top. But don't tell anyone...

Drifting with a Front Wheel Drive car is done by using the eBrake to slide the rears and the power to point and move the car. Often referred to as "ass dragging"

RWD started to practice and is considered the purest by many and a relic by some. Front wheels steer, rear wheels slide through power.

AWD drifting is known to be the easiest since the front wheels can be used to control the position and heading to great effect. Some don't consider it to be drifting.

Yeah FWD drifting(if that's what you want to call it) looks something like this:

This dude is just dragging ass lol. Still though, he must have a lot of years of experience under his belt.

I remember seeing people in fwd at mod shows and car meets attempting to drift
What they did was drive their back wheels onto tea-trays, apply the handbrake (e-brake) and drive round without the rear tyres being in contact with with road surface
Looked quite funny

Last year I went to a drift meet out here and some kid was drifting a Chevy Cavalier. He was good too.

I mean the only reason i would practice it is for the props you get because it's such a hard thing to do. But i would never do it for fun, not that i have done it or even tried it but drifting with a RWD car is a lot of fun. Trying to drift a FWD car just looks unbearably boring and annoying. But i might try it if i come across an FWD car to prove myself right or wrong... hopefully right.

**Warning this video contains EXTREME Japanese rambling about Kei cars**

So it's possible, however I doubt the average person could do it to easily without a wet or snow covered road.

The rules of D1gp allowed FWD or RWD but not 4WD. I can drift FWD better than some can do in a RWD. But RWD is really the only true drifting in my opinion and 99.999% of drift cars you see are RWD.
