Do you have any special drift techniques you like to use or even perfected in GT5? Share some of the ways you initiate drifts or maintain them.

Other than feint drift(everyone does that) I've been doing a lot of dirt drop drifting. It works really well with my Supra to help get it sideways in a hurry. I don't see many people do it, at least not on purpose.

And, not really a technique, but on the final turn on Tsukuba, I like to take my car all the way to the outside edge and keep the drift going with my back bumper hovering over the grass and dirt while my back tires reach as far to the edge of the track.

I just recently started drifting without ABS, when the brakes are well tuned you can brake initiate some pretty nice drifts. I still prefer to power over though.

Scandanavian flick + dirt drop = the combination I use on most courses w/out walls to intiate drifts...it allows me to enter drifts w/out having wide open throttle, me more revs to play w/ as I slide. It works like a dream on my high torque cars like my z32 and viper, and to a lesser extent my s13...my high revving 86's(FT and AE) and rotaries(SE3P and FC) strangely enough benefit from more of a power over approach, as w/in a certain rev range(usually 6.5k rpm to beyond redline) the rear will step out w/ any type of weight transfer, be it a turn or slight braking.. I've recently been experimenting more w/ drifting w/out ABS, and I like it..on my higher powered machines combined w/ a front biased brake setup it makes for nice 4 wheel slides that are perfect for making those 90 degree walled turns so common to tokyo bay or the city courses(they should run a d1 exhibition in circuito madrid)

I only really use E-brake to initiate and use the normal brakes to transition. Nothing too fancy. I may power over occasionally but only in low speed corners where the E-brake will only bring me to a stop.

one of my fave techniques is the OTT handbrake drift (holding the handbrake for ages before the drift) looks realy good on replays

Some puritans doesn´t like nothing related to e-brakes in their lines...

I don´t care about it and sometimes when i realize ill not reach the apex and (by lack of speed or turning mistake) i like to abuse of e-brakes and extend my slide, then its time to guess what is the right gear and pump the gas even before release the hand brake.

Its not a fast manuever, but i dont care about speed.

This!👍 this technique is amazing. it looks great the car sliding in a straight line and then enter the corner

To be honest, I don't have any special drift technique and the likes. I just do the best possible* technique that I can utilise to get the car going sideways and maintain my drift.

* for me.

Yea but those puritans should know that theres situations you must use the e-brake. People thinking that using the ebrake is a noob technique are just ignorant that should check more real drifting and see how it is still used even by top drivers.

The e-brake is great for killing understeer at low speed tandems, and as mentioned above it is an excellent way to extend your drift, albeit if youre coming up short or whatever it may be. People who dont use their e-brake are losing out on a lot of techniques.

If you look at team orange tandems; or Burst ones (the 2 best team in hella close tandem), they pull the ebrake a lot when they're door 2 door.

I use Faint and braking drift techniques. I only use the e-brake if all other attempts fail or if I want a half mile entry into a corner.

Not to be disrespectful in anyway, but there are only 6 real drift techniques as explained by Dori Dori-san. Adv. drifting is just taking these 6 techniques and putting them together. ie: Tsukuba last corner, For me in an RX7 its hard late brake, then release, turn in, once I get to the angel I want countersteer according to the amount of gas im giving it.(wheel) Without fail thats a rear clipping drift on the outside. That is taking 2 basic drift techs and bringing them together.(braking drift + lift off) Adv drifters will go this route usually but it will all come down to personal style(which is why i love drifting) e-brake drifting is an easy way to start learning but kills to much speed, I will only use my ebrake during tandem.

Looking to drift? add me PSN:unsungoni

Beginners

These techniques don't use the weight of the cars to kick the drifts. Easily learned, but hard to perfect and still used by the professionals.

Handbrake - Not a lot needed to explain, i reckon.

Shifting - With downshifting fast, and maybe even multiple times you will get a large amount in RPM increase, which will make the car go into a drift if controlled upon entering the corner.

Clutch kick or "coup d'embrayage" - This is not possible when you don't have a clutch mechanism in GT5, but consists of increasing your RPM while holding the clutch and just letting go. This will also tend to spin the rear wheels and kick a drift.

'Professional' techniques

Are based on weightshifting.

Brakedrift -This contains of just braking very hard into a corner, which puts the weight on the front wheels, and cause loss of traction in the rear.

Inertiondrift - This contains of moving the weight to the outside of the corner, and steering in fast, which will bring the car sideways. (Other name it is known as: Scandinavian Flick)

Throttle Release-drift or "lift-off drift" - By just lifting the foot of the throttle weight will als shift forward, and the braking of the engine helps in this motion.

All the 'professional' techniques can be helped by using e-brake, or just making a combo with a beginning technique.

There are many techniques that I use in drifting with my G27... like before entering a corner I hold the clutch and shift down and brake a little bit and release the clutch quickly while entering the corner which makes the car slide faster.

sounds like classic shift lock to me, which is cool just not worth doing in real life unless its wet or someone else is paying for your transmission(another reason to love gt5).

I don't know, it all depends on the weight of the car and how fast I'm going, I guess.

I usually try to break to throw the weight forward and then downshift while turning hard inside and hitting the throttle. Sometimes though, I don't have to break and can just throw a feint.

The only time I really use the e-brake is if I go too deep into a turn and have to save myself from going off of the track. Or if I'm drifting a MR car but I just barely touch the e-brake to initiate the drift.

Actually, I've been racing a lot in my Yellowbird and that thing is kind of crazy to drive. I actually break hard and then turn by just accelerating hard towards the inside corner. The torque on that thing is so crazy that any heavy footed pedal work will slip the rear tires so you are forced to plow that thing around corners like the rudder on a boat. I know it's not pure drifting but I was just mentioning it because you have to know how to drift and kill whipback coming out of a turn to drive that thing anywhere.

^This with a bit of a scandinavian flick for instant angle. First corner of Suzuka east... ~240 km/h entry

Uhhhh idk if its still called the OTT Handbreak, but i lock all wheels when i enter first corner of Eiger about the time i get near the pit lane lol

And pow-overs are bomb, and so are 360 entries and reverse entries. haha

this is what she looks like now, i wish it was this color when i made the vid.
