I've read a few posts on how to drift. I understand the theory. But I never seem to have much luck. It is like trying to learn a foreign language without speaking it.

I was wondering if someone could record a video of a drift session? I don't want to see the exterior of the car. I want cockpit view of a premium car that shows a lot of the steering wheel, with the HUD on. I want to see how much the steering wheel turns and how much accelerator is being applied during the drift.

Is there a video like this? Would anyone mind putting one together?

Are you using a wheel or the DS3? There's a massive difference between the two, so it would be good to clarify which you use.

I'm not sure why there is a difference. I don't want to actually see your wheel, I want to see the wheel of the car in the game. I hope that makes sense.

I use a DFGT. And for what it is worth, I don't want to actually drift. I just want to be able to regain control of a car when it oversteers.

Okay, one thing straight.

The difference between DS3 and wheel for any form of drifting is immense. The changes between each produce a list I don't have the time to post here tonight.

Whether you use a wheel or ds3 makes a difference because the inputs the driver makes are completely different. Wheel inputs are relatively smooth, whereas ds3 inputs are very 'jerky'. It is very tough to hold consistant wheel angle with a ds3, which causes ds3 users to use a flicking technique with the joystick.

As a wheel user, watching a cockpit video of someone who is using a ds3 would be of little to no use to you, that's why I thought you should clarify.

Okay, that makes sense. Really, I just want to understand how much inputs are going into a car during a power slide. I can see some steering when watching real life drifting videos, and I see videos showing off some heel-toe action. But I just want to be able to see how much steering and throttle input goes into the life cycle of the slide.

Like I said, I don't care to get into drifting. But every now and then I find myself pushing a car too hard during a race and the back-end steps out. I counter steer and one of three things happen:

1) The back-end just keeps coming around, over-taking the front-end and I do a 180. Race is over.

2) The back end snaps back in the opposite direction. My counter-steer now becomes positive steer and the car races off to the outside of the corner, off the course, and into a wall. Race is over.

3) The back end is held in check, but it doesn't come back until the car has slowed down dramatically. I have to down shift even more and start accelerating again, if I was lucky enough to avoid being rear-ended. The race may not be over, but I lost a lot of ground with such a rubbish exit speed.

Ultimately, my goal is just to be easier on the car and don't ever let the back-end step out. But come on, if Jeremy Clarkson can do it, "How hard can it be?"

Ok I'm gonna give you some tips. First I'd like to say the best way to be able to do something is to be a master of the most advanced form. So learning to drift will making your racing skills go waaay up. Driving race cars and crazy cars like the yellow bird are easy to me now because I know how much of everything will push them past their limits and more important I know how to fix it incase the car does get into trouble. Just choose a lower HP car and practice drifting around a track. You will learn fast how to control a skid since you are none stop going to be in one while drifting.

What I find is best is once you start to spin. Let go of the gas quick slam the wheel full to the opposite direction and slam the gas. This should quickly start to snap the car back to the center. Than after that turn the wheel to the opposite direction your skidding and push gas as needed until you return back to a straight position. This may seem tricky is you try it with a race car which is why I suggest trying it on an easy lower powered drifter to give you practice doing this. Even if you don't want to drift just get a drift car and practice driving down the straights and try to hold it straight without spinning out.

Like Stavingo said, watch the drift bible. I also suggest looking in the Gran Turismo 4 drift forum and look for the FR guide

Thank you. I'll try, but like I said, I've read lots of tips, and tried some, but in the real world I would have the opportunity to ride shotgun with someone or have them ride shotgun with me. I'm hoping a video would make up for that.

I also agree with the mastering this to be better at racing. I don't want to get into drifting for drifting's sake, but if I can do a passable job at this, then I should be much better at racing.

Imma suggest the drift bible, honestly something everyone needs to watch.

I was going to ask what that was, but I see there is another thread asking already.

I've seen drifting videos of this very same driver. I had seen them with the inset of the camera of his feet. I hadn't seen them with the brake and accelerator input insets. That is exactly what I want. I can see how much he turns the wheel and how much the pushes the pedals. Thanks.

The ingame cockpit is useless, to say the least. it has a 90 degree angle which is just insufficient in accuracy.
Watch videos of the guys drifting on here (Bahaa, MonsterGAUZ, etc, ...) That WILL help.
Besides that; go to Top Gear track and throw the car around at high speeds. You will learn to control the car eventually.

I can't race with it. I use the bumper cam. The only thing I like about it is seeing how much other drivers steer. And that only works on Premium models.
