WORBBLY
I've just started drifting with a wheel as using a pad just wasn't fun anymore and I couldn't stand the wheel flicking thing. Anyway, I've been watching some videos and one thing I've noticed is how easy it is for people to flick the wheel around. There's noway on earth I could ever move the wheel like that due to the FFB being really strong. I mean, I'm nearly ripping the damn thing off the wheel stand!

Any advice? I've tried playing around with the settings and I like the FFB on 6 for "feeling" the car but it just feels too heavy. Even on 1 or 2 it still feels pretty heavy. I'm at a loss.

I'm using the Logitech Driving Force Pro.

Maybe I should just hit he gym :indiff:

Sorry if this has been asked before.

Slowly increase it from 5 until you're comfortable with 10. Don't fight against it, use the high FFB to your advantage.

It takes practice.

Thanks for the advice. I know what you mean because I've had drifts where I actually don't work that hard. Then there are times where you just what to make a slight adjustment and it's really hard because you have to wrestle with the wheel.

I'll keep at it and hopefully it'll click soon.

Do like you did on the DS3. When in a drift, wait for the moment of grip to transition then let the wheel go and it will countersteer for you to catch. Dont force the wheel the other way to transition, you'll get your finger ripped off if you do that.
I hope you get what I mean.

Yea, I get what you mean. I'm actually pretty ok at starting the drift and catching it. For example on a right hand turn I'll flick the wheel to the left then right and let the wheel spin itself into the countersteer. I can hold it there ok as you can feel when it goes lose and when you need to make small changes. My problem at the moment is coming out of drifts now. I'll either spin out or the car will flick itself in the othe direction before I get a chance to catch it. I'll keep at it though as there's no feeling like pulling off a nice drift with a wheel. So much more rewarding.

When coming out of the drift, dont floor it, slowly let off the accelerator or tap it otherwise you'll spin out like you said. As for tank slapping, remember you always want the front wheels facing the direction you want to go so you dont want to be near full lockon the exit, you'll want to be thinking about straightening out otherwise you'll flick off because of too much lock. But keep practicing

Blame the DFP man. Honestly, i have a pro and I have similar problems. I could initiate well but exits were difficult. This is due to the fact that the FF motor turns so slow, it takes too long for the wheel to spin around for you to catch it. It feels like driving with the front wheels in molasses. You literally have to fight the wheel to turn it back the direction you want.

compare:

I love my dfp to death, but it's just too slow for drifting. Going to invest in a gt or a g27 soon enough in the future.

Just for good measure...

Wow, that's crazy. I honestly thought the FF motors in most wheels were about the same. Or at least acted the same way. I'm going to look into getting a DFGT.

Thanks again everyone.

What the hell? The driving force PRO is the very expensive wheel right?

I have the DFGT myself, and have noticed the FFB speed is just a little too slow for quick countersteering by itself. I'm very surprised about how slow it turns!

Also surprised to see the DFGT being almost as fast as the G27..

No, I got mine for about £70-80 off amazon some years ago. It's a good wheel, but just lacking what you get if you shell out a bit more obviously.

For the Vettel challenge I ended up taking the power cable out the back of the wheel about halfway so it switched off the motors but I could still turn, as it was like trying to drive a bus around with the motors on.

Sorry but i've had both of the wheels.. remember me?... its xDriftzz :D... anyway back to the post so the DFGT and the G27 calibrate at the same speed however the G27 is faster in game and it runs smoother. :P

Offcourse i remember dude!

"I am that Karyuun guy man!" :sly:

I've never drifted with the G27 before, so i would just have to take your word on that. But hey; where would the price difference come from if not from better internals? (and externals but okay)

Still; the fanatec will be my next wheel; simply for the cross compatibility

Karyunn is Right. The dfgt is a good starter wheel but the g27 is sooo much better! Smoother, doesnt stop half way through a transition, pedals are so much better, and the shifter is really fun compared to tge little sequential gimic on the dfgt. Then when your racing the paddles are there if you want, which are also way better.

was talking to a guy last night whose lines were SUPER clean and he was using a wheel, I noticed immediately that the throttle control of a pedal has a huge advantage over a DS3.

been fighting the urge t get a wheel...

let me ask y'all this - will the wheel correct itself like a real car will? for example, lets say you make a 90 degree right turn at 30 mph - the steering wheel of a real car will straighten itself out by itself - will a g27 (or the like) do that?

It sure will. 👍

cool, so you know what I mean then right?

I'd hate to have to make EVERY single turn - if I can let the wheel slide through my hand that would be cool.

Is there anyway I could try a wheel out before buying one? Will any game stores have one out or anything like that?

You can! Its much like a real car, and brings a new life to gt5!
Most game stores would have dfgt. I recommend learning on that wheel then upgrade to something like g27, like i did.

as powell has stated above it is better to get a dfgt, get use to drifting/racing, sell your dfgt for 90$, get a 20% off logitech coupon, and end up buying a new g27 for 160$!!! LOL heres the funny thing i called them so many times when my first wheel broke that they ended up sending me two replacement DFGT wheels :D.
