Drifting forum clean up

Mods and members,
ever since the team sub-forum has been created, the drifting forum has been inundated with tune requests, help requests that have been already been covered. Even off topic threads that have nothing to do with GT5 aren't uncommon.
I have noticed that many of these threads are created by new users that may not of read any stickies or the AUP for that matter. So I propose, to the moderator's, to put some sort of system in place wher users have to have a specific number of posts to create a thread (Spank's idea) or better yet, have a designated moderator to stroll the forum once a day as I know for a fact you/they rarely come down this far into the dark pit that is the drifting forum.
Any feedback would be appreciated as to what you could do,

If the tuning forum starts to become over run with drift setups I would look at approaching Jordan for a sub-forum in the drift area for tuning but at this stage there isn't enough threads in my opinion to do this.

I am hoping since that thread does exist, many other members start creating their own threads for tunes. Though if there is a petition for a sub-forum for it, would it be in the Drifting section as a sub forum or will it be linked?

I agree that it probably would drive more traffic and interest however some of the drift guys are particularly difficult in their behavior and need to be handled a little delicately as they seem to think it's a territorial thing for them. I'm worried that too many people encroaching on "their" area might cause more problems rather than making a positive impact. I'll speak to Jordan about possibly having a tuning subforum in the drift section, this would eliminate the issues some current members have as it doesn't disrupt that portion of the forum as people can simply by-pass it if they so wish by going straight to the tuning section.

Though we need to create the traffic to this sub forum. There are certain Mods that visit the forum every so often also.

i agree with you driifterzz i tried to find that forum about whos your favorite drifter and seriously saw like 5 different forums with the name im looking for a team and i was only on page 6 its ridiculous to have an 11 page forum like for real. they kinda need more organizing on the drifting section i mean to be honest i really dont think the racing or any other section really could be too much bigger than drifting community here.

It's just idiots who cant be bothered to look around so they expect it to come to them ( Tune requests, wanting to join a team, etc), it is getting beyond a joke now and I know the rest of the serious members of this forum feel the same...

I'm with the op. I gave up on redirecting newbies a long time ago. It's got to a point where I rarely even glance at this section, and just stick to the drifting events area, as it is compiled of mostly experienced forumers and drifters.

To be honest I don't really think mods care. I reported my OP as soon as I put it up so they could all see. No moderator bothered replying, just a few threads locked on the first page.

Sometimes it just takes a simple PM.

Because the mods are only human and can only monitor when they're on. If no one is on when you report, nobody will respond.

We're only human. Consider that over a hundred new posts enter the queue during peak activity periods every five minutes, we can't see everything.

While I agree that off-topicness and duplicate posts are a problem, they're a problem everywhere, not just the drift forum. The suggestion for minimum number of posts has been brought up before, specifically for the Marketplace. The problem is: A minimum post requirement would just encourage more spam. Something we had to crack down on in the "Introduce Yourself" subforum, where certain members posted simply to boost their post count.

In other words, there are no easy answers, except perhaps a two-minute IQ test to be taken with every post. Which would be problematic. Simply continue to report problematic posts and we'll deal with them in the usual way. 👍

okay as soon as someone posts a looking for a team or a simply pointless thread, I am going to report it.

Edit: Maybe we can try stickying the free agents thread in both basic GT5 drifting forum along with the Drift teams sub-forum? Maybe this could possibly help with the excessive "looking for team" threads posted.

I think the only way forward is if at least 2 or 3 of us report new user, new thread spams. That way mod's can see it/them and possibly give an infraction as a warning that might give them a kick in he right direction. Is there any way, niky, you could PM all moderators or send out a message to how the drifting forum is going.
I know it's the same or similar in all other forum sections but, as the drifting forum, it is exacerbated as there are only a hand full of regulars being outnumbered by new users that don't even take time to read the AUP.

Well... that's the same of any part of the forum... always more new guys than old. We could accept suggestions for stickies... and yes, multiple reports help bring across the message in case someone misses it.

Unfortunately this will inevitably occur. We can't force people to read the rules but we can penalize them for not following them.

If something violates the rules of the site, the report button is just a click away. We don't always get a chance to respond asap, I received a PM at 10am EST today about this thread but only just got a chance to login during my lunch break 3 hours later to actually get a chance to read it. Rest assured that when we come online, we do go through reported posts and take the necessarily actions required.

A positive community discussion. Though there will be arguments but civil arguments without the name calling and random pics like Pony Stig.

There is no such thing as A good or bad thread. 9 out of 10 times the Original post will have A helpful answer for someone, or at least get A reasonable response answering the question. But it becomes A problem when people constantly double, or even triple post in the thread or duplicate A previous thread which is at most 2 or 3 clicks down. The main problem is those who totally dismiss others and abuse them, for giving them tips on how to make it easier to view posts and even keep there thread on track. That's why Drifterzz is asking for the post count before the ability to make A thread be increased. But that will just cause spam else where. Therfor all we simply have to do now, is report any violation by those who do not stick to the AUP whether they have 10,000 posts or 10.
