Drifting Hybrids...

Hello all! Long time lurker, first time poster. :D

I have been into GT since the very beginning of the original one, and have continued playing it ever since.

I started building Hybrids with GT2 & the GSPro back in the day. I am now getting really into learning drifting. It is taking time, but I am getting the hang of it. :)

I was wondering if any of you make Hybrids specifically for drifting? If not, what parts would you use to make a "Super Drifter"? I know that with drifting you do not need a ton of HP, and it is skill more than power.

I know that some of you on here don't really like Hybrids, so sorry. ;) Don't worry though, I am not into making a car with 4000 HP or anything like that. I am into very driveable, very realistic Hybrids.

For example, my current car that I am trying to perfect is a Miata LS with RX-8 Brakes, better weight reduction, and a Stage-3 Turbo & Racing Intercooler off of an RX-7, GT-R V-Spec Super-Softs, and everything else is the maxed stuff that I could normally buy. It has 400HP, and man is it a Rocket!!

Also, how much does Downforce hurt drifting? (Some of my favorite Hybrids have the DF maxed out for driveability.) If I were to put Simulation Tires on, and change the Suspension settings, could I make this car driftable? I have not tried it yet, because when I make the Hybrids I put upgraded Tires from different vehicles on them, and once I change them, I will not be able to get them again without recreating the Hybrid.

Sorry to be long-winded, just curious as to what you guys think! Also, keep up the excellent work, I have learned a TON from you guys, and I have been playing for over 4 years!!

Thanks!

With GT3, I make Hybrids by transferring my Game Save to my PC via the SharkPort and then I open the Game Save up and change parts on the cars via a program that I found on this site.

With GT2, I had a GameShark Pro with my PS1 that plugged into the port on the back. It basically stops the game and it opens it up in an editable Hex Code format. It was alot more time consuming!

Basically you are just using a Hex Editor to make changes. It is pretty neat, and the possibilities are nearly ENDLESS! I enjoy it, it is very fun, especially if you are starting to get tired of racing the same 'ol cars. :D

I haven't really made any drifting specific hybrids because I'm just too lazy to spend the time to do so, but I have made a few realistic hybrids that drift fairly well.

My favorite drifting hybrid is....
Lotus Elise 190 with F20C (s2000 engine)
I did this because I just recently read about someone who put a B16A in an Elise and got the 0-60 times similar to a Ferrari (i think it was the 360 Modena).
His next project was putting a F20C in another Elise and testing it out. I just decided to try that out on my own. The car is a little hard to control, especially without ASM or TCS, but is a pretty good drifting car with mediums ^_^. I bought all the mods for the elise except for Stage 3 Lightening and the engine mods. I fully modded the engine with parts from the S2000, giving it around 400ish hp. It's RIDICULOUSLY fast!
I didn't do much to the settings. I just lowered the car all the way (the back should be a bit higher than the front) and turned off ASM and TCS. I tune the transmission according to the track I'm racing/drifting in. I recommend mediums with this car. Anything lower might be a little too uncontrollable. I haven't tried anything higher so you can do that.

wow that was long =P

My main concern is the amount of Downforce that I put on my Hybrids... How detrimental will be this be to drifting attempts, even if I use Simulation Tires versus my regular Racing tires(GT-R V-Spec Super-Softs on most...)?

Even though the GT-R tires do look the best... You should see my Miata rollin' on what looks like 20" Racing Rims!!! :D

I don't have an xport/sharkport, but I use gameshark for a few things. I have a few 'hybrid drifters', nothing with 4000hp, though. Things like..a 600 HP 86 and things. Just things I've been playing around with. As far as sims and DF go, I dont know. I suppose it would help it drift. And welcome to GTP! :)

I personaly use alot of parts from cars that I know can drift as they are. My favorite drift mildbrids at the moment are:
S13 with RB26DET engine form a Skyline, Razo Silvia brakes, and sport tires from a Skyline.
RSX with a drivetrain from an S2000 (FR), NSX brakes, and a Integra type R JDM engine, with a Alto Works Racing turbo.:D

I can't change the DF though without recreating the Hybrid on my PC. So it basically permanently maxed out all times, you think with the Sims & no ASM & TCS (of course ;)) that it is possible?

And thanks for the welcome!

Well probably. I mean, sims make the car slip easier, so its possible it'll compensate for thr DF max. And thank you for using good grammar. :D Long story, I wont get into it. Anyways, its appreciated.

No problem for the proper grammar, I try. After all, I want everyone to be able to understand what the hell I am babbling about. :D

Thanks for the input, I will give it a shot, and of course post my results...

I want to buy an x-port just to make a few FR hybrids. Lancer's to FR and Skyline's to FR. omg that would be the best thing to see. IMHO they would rock:D

You want the smallest amount of downforce possible for a drift car. As for HP, just match up the HP with the tires: stock-300 sims, 400-600 normal or sports, above that racing tires. This also varies somewhat depending on the cars' torque and weight.
Camber should be about 1 to 2 times more angled in the front than the back.
I put the stabilizers to 1 unless the car has a lot of body roll.
Set the brakes to oversteer.
and that's about it, everything else is somewhat subjective.
;)

The only hybrids I actually used for drifting was a Koguchi-spec 180sx. Basically it was just a big-brake kit from an R32 and maybe one more thing. Nothing extreme.

I have contemplated the idea oh making a mini cooper FR drifting machine just havent gotten around to it. but I dont know what parts would make it better than other cars
