Drifting in an RX-7?

Hey all. I'm a new drifter, but a good driver, and I just have a question.

I have the setup for my RX-7, but I can't seem to get it as sideways as I would have liked, and I seem to be only able to start a drift with the handbrake, no matter how hard I try with the brakes.

I used to have the power at about 330 bhp, and then I brought it up to 540+, but it only made it harder to keep the drift, yet before it was harder to start one without loosing power.

Any ideas?

You might want to read other threads around here, they say exactly what to do 👍

BTW: stock power+N3 tires+AIDS:0 should start you drifting 👍

Do you have any aids on? You need to completely forget everything you ever knew about driving, and start from scratch.

I started recently to drive an RX-7 Type R '91. With this car it's no problem, but i had some with other RX-7's. The car i drive has no particular setup exept some parts bought. (330 Hp, no weigt reduction, suspension, and that's all)

Same here. 👍

Older model RX-7 (91-97) drift easier than the new one (98-02) so you may have difficulty to drift the new model. Try the drifting setting depot, that can help you.👍

You got that right,i find '95 FD easyest to drift, the kouki one is to stable car IMHO.Zenki rules!👍

It might help if you told us the exact model you were drifting.

oke .. i just got after my playstation and tried it out with an maxda rx-7 Type R bathurst... u should try this .. before the corner... let go of the throthle .. steer a bit to the left ( if the corner is to the right ) full throthle and steer hard right ...

it worked for me

Like Marouan said, a quick feint action like that can get most cars doing the dori-dori. I drift several Rx-7s, including a '92 Type-R, with about 290bhp. N2 tyres are your friend. :D

Drifting's not all about power, though. I drift a near-stock '85 Rx7 GT-Limited, with power around the 200bhp range. For cars like that, I use N1 tyres.

Drifting a stock car is the challenge but most people don't see that.

There is many ways to drift a car, I suggested watch the Drift Bible and try it out on GT4.

Yeah, practice before complaining about settings please. Nothing hurts more than to see someone complain about how bad a car is and how the setting don't work when you can't drift properly.

Are you talking about 240sx???

With 240's and Silvia's the 89-90 was refered to as a pig-nose s13 in america
91-94 is a chuki s13
95-96 is a zenki s14
97-98 is a kouki s14 (all American 240sx came with KA24DE and were available with Base, SE or LE trim levels)

In Japan all the non pop up sedan S chassis are Silvia's with the zenki and chuki separation on the S14 The fastback in japan is refered to as a 180sx. Also a Silvia S15 was made in Japan Only. And the s13 180sx was available with Type R, Type S and Type X trim levels and was produced until 98. And in Japan all the 88-89 model S chassis came with a CA18DET and all 90+ models came with either a N/A SR20 or SR20DET.

With RX-7's the first gen was from 79-84 available as a Savanna (13b turbo) or GL (12a)
2nd gen from 85-88 available as Turbo II (13b turbo) or GT-X or GT-U (13b n/a)
2.5 gen from 89-91 Same as above just slightly more power and updated body lines.....a rare Infinity version available in Japan
3rd gen from 92+ available in R1, R2, and touring trim.....Not sure exactly but most were twin turbo 13b.....In Japan there were special Bathurst and Spirit R versions available with more refined suspension and LSD and whatnot. Also a bump from 255hp to 280hp

No,i'm talking about third gen RX7,and yeah, first gen used 12a(AFAIK)
Anyway, after '95 FD's are called koukis(you know what that means),beacuse it has different style front bumper, with different turn signals and/or short lights(don't know the exact word)!About nissans, you forgot the vert :D:D:D
Vert is so lovely when you modify the doors from a fastback!

The Kouki FD's are also called "99' spec FD's" Simply bcuz they're new lights. Anyways, you missed a few models within the FC lineup. Simply because they weren't called Turbo-II's in Japan. Just GT, GT-Limited, GT-R Infini (3&4) and the n/a's were available strictly in north america. GTU, GX, GTX, GTUs, I may have missed a few. But anyways, Kouki strickly means after change, with Zenki meaning before change.

i know i'm probably gonnna get flamed but here goes:
well, i just bought the new RX-7 from the mazda showroom (bathurst i think) with all modifications in the shop installed:dopey: and its got 540+ bhp, i got the suspension settings from another thread, and i am getting pretty good at it..... exept i have a tendancy to fishtail and spin at the end of the drift. ah well. it works for me.
oh and N3 tyres
