Drifting online

How come people are faster drifting online? This really bothers me. I'm fairly new to GT5P's multiplayer and haven't figured out myself how to drift in a normal race, and I don't want to. As far as I know I don't join any drift events. :)

Yet people that do drift are in front. So for me it doesn't make any sence that people are able to drift in GT in a normal race and are faster that way. Ruins it imo. You don't see racecars drift irl (unless it's a drift event of course), and if they would, they would fall behind. Not so in GT5P.

I checked the replay of the fastest driver with a Clio Sport Tuned on Suzuka just out of curiousity, and the top driver playing with amateur physics was drifting, but the fastest driver playing with pro physics did not drift (like it should be).

Makes me wonder if it's only possible to drift (and being faster that way) with amateur physics?

You will NEVER be faster with drifting in pro physics, dont have to much experience with standard, but after watching standard ranking list I think its faster to drift in standard physics,.

Well one example is... my drift buddies and myself would play on Suzuka online... we had very fast entry speeds into the first turn and would scrub speed by getting slightly sideways without distracting game play.

Also through the series of S turns... if you set your suspension properly and tires you can get through it at a high rate of speed riding right to the maximum grip of the tires and slightly stepping the rear out some.

Drifters almost always carry more speed for momentum and by habit we do it while grip racing also.

ps

I only drive on Pro Physics

We talking "for show" drifting or inertia drifting?

A REAL drift is faster (ie: too fast for the tyres to even grip)
but I can't imagine the tyres lasting a whole race compared
to a normal driving style. But this is just a game and we have
no tyre wear. Welcome to Gran Exploitismo.

Lol.... One thing I like is being able to adjust traction during the game. If i have a big lead, Ill start drifting lol.

@Biggamehit: If you do it in some turns or only drift slightly in some occasions without distracting gameplay... I have nothing against that, especially if you can pull it of with pro physics. What bothers me is that some people drift in every corner with amateur physics, making it hard for the rest to drive normally. They are faster taking corners that way and knock you off the road if you don't watch out.

@Lernatix: Yeah, adding tyre wear online would stop this. Hope it's possible in GT5.

@Biggamehit: It's different when you have a big lead. And having the option to adjust traction on the fly does sound nice, I can do it to, but I never use it. I should play with it some more.

@IsmokeGT: It's the complete opposite with amateur physics. If you don't drift you get passed or knocked off the track. :)
