Drifting the Supra 2.5 Twin Turbo R '90

Hello , I am looking for some driftsettings for my blue '90 Supra TT 2.5 R ..

I got it to 634 (something) HP after oil change and all the mods and now it drifts pretty good in standard form (!) on SS tires !!! Only the 'snapback' is a bit wicked but I can probably fix this with some weight transfer ?

Can anyone help me with these settings ? I searched but could only find settings for a supra with stage 1 or 2 turbos ,and also saw in the drift 'bible' that's it's good to have 300-350hp when drifting but i want to try a bit more extreme ..

So , it's got all of the mods and runs 630+-HP on SS tires
the only thing I changed was the brake balance , it's was set to F-8 R-10 ....

Look up the page a couple inches , there is a Drift Settings Depot, You can request settings there.
 
Or you could also try it stock with N1's, its kind of like an FC. Just slightly bigger

Since those one-word responses are against the TOS, I'll add something, but I'd hate to divert too far off topic so IM me on AIM or MSN if this bothers you. And if it does bother you I appologize in advance.

But, I own a 1988 Tenth Anniversary Turbo II. I've driven many MKIII and MK IV's on the track. Countless, in fact.

They aren't alike. Not even to the point where I can associate the Supra as being a larger version of the FC. The DTSS is a completely different animal than anything the Supra can dish out. Conversely, the Supra's twin-turbo V-6, or Single Turbo, or even N/A. Put's out far more torque (and HP on later models) than the RX7's that follow it.

Balance wise, there is just no comparison. My FC will out handle any Supra stock for stock, there's no doubt in my mind. It's made for it. The Supra is in the same class as the 300ZX. They are both Japanese Muscle Cars. They go very fast in a straight line, but when it comes to turning, they're just missing something. Maybe it's the stability of the suspension, or the distribution of weight within the chassis itself, but something is definately amiss.

The FC (or RX7 family for that matter) is setup not so much for the straight line power, but still maintains a very respectable forward flowing response. Where it shines, however, is where the road starts to bend.


I'm going to stop, because I could possible go on with this for pages; but I won't. HAHA!

They are two different beasts, setup for two different purposes, and designed by two different, yet highly respectable, companies.

Well that was informative, but unlike you I’m not as fortunate and have only had GT-4 to let me drive those cars. So when I was drifting them I thought they had similar characteristics. That’s why I said that, oh and I totally agree with you on the fact that a FC could beat an Mk III around corners any day; just drifting they felt the same to me.

But he had experience....there is the difference. The supra is probably too heavy for me, I try to not to drift it but when I want to make fun of Fast and Furious, there I go ^^.

While I don't question that you've driven MKIIIs and MKIVs, you evidently havn't looked under the hood. 7M-GTE, 1JZ, 2JZ, etc - all Inline 6s.

And as to all this "mysterious balance" the RX7 has.. its simple. Lets take a look at an FD. 13B wankle, set behind the front axle (technically making it MID engine), displacement measured to a 1.3L equivalent, and a rev-happy car with no where near the torque of a turboed I-6. It's going to feel smooth, its going to feel balanced, its going to do well on a circuit.

MKIIIs are pigs, but they have awesome engines (cept for some BHG problems), as are the idolized MKIV.

I have a '71 240Z (turbo L28) and an '88 300Z Turbo. I'll take either one of those over an FC or an MKIII, but god how I lust after a Supra drivetrain.

FCs are cool, but boosted wankles hit the ****ter quick.
But this is GT4 world, none of that matters. All the cars are perfectly reliable, and tuning is as simple as clicking "BUY" "INSTALL NOW" and waiting for a short loading screen.

Why does everyone always pounce on me when I call an I-6 a V-6, it was obviously a mistake, LOL!

But it's all good, I know about the reliability factor of the FC, TRUST ME! LOL! I have a 10th Anniversary Model (it's supposed to be a collectors item) sitting on a blown engine after ONLY 72,000 miles. What sense does that make?!

That's why my new daily drivers (my Celica and E30) are all pistoned. The Celica is the ultimate beater restore project, but it gets me to work and the tank of gas lasts for over a week. And that's driving to Long Island and back!

My E30 is a I-6 MONSTER of TORQUE, but has almost NO hp because of the low revving engine(5,000rpms MAX).

I hope that when GT5 comes out, it will teach these kids the value of buying a car and maintaining it. Why, because you'd be suprised how many people I get that come to the track who have NO idea how to maintain and install parts on a car, but think they can race well because they have a Driving Force Pro wheel and can run a 1:18.xxx around Midfield, LMAO! Which also makes me hate the new FnF movie that's coming out but that's another topic for another thread and ANOTHER day all together.

Anyway, I feel ya tho, and I had an 88 Z myself, non-turbo, but it was a blast to drive. In fact, for those who have seen the Night Majik website, that picture on the front page is a night shot of the Z in question.
