Well after using a d-pad and buttons since 1998, I finally got a wheel, DFGT. I figured there would be a learning curve, but for grip racing there pretty much wasn't - I'm fast and it's great. Until I lose traction.

In GT3/4 I got really into drifting, was quite good at it. In GT5, I haven't messed with it much yet (lost interest), but was able to do pretty well on Eiger with like, stock M3 and 599. With the sixaxis of course.

Well, now I have this steering wheel, and heaven forbid I lose any traction... as soon as the car gets crooked I'm gone. I think I have my problem boiled down to this: I have to be gentle with the pedals, and more violent with the wheel. And practice.

My concern is - how have these wheels been holding up? To come back from being sideways you gotta whip that wheel, and it sounds like the gearbox is screaming bloody murder. Anybody have any problems, or have trouble adapting to the wheel like me?

I have had my DFP since before GT4 came out and its still going strong. Mostly used for drifting, but quite a bit of gripping too. Although I have broken the button to look back, i replaced it myself the next day. Still going strong.

I've been through 2 DFPs, both from first one being from GT4. First one pedals stopped working, and the 2nd, recently started loosing calibration from just turning the wheel. Im guessing that's from countersteering and correcting too fast. Now I have a G25, and steering feels much lighter with it. Though sometimes I hear a weird sound, but I hope it'll last at least a couple of years.

I abused mine so much and it's still in great shape so they're pretty solid,

Also I wouldnt worry to much about breaking it anyways you have a 1 year warranty

The DFP (had one since the release of GT4) was great, but the Pedals sucked, had to fix/try fixing it multiple times and eventually gave up. Then i got the G25, MUCH better quality (and twice the price). The G25 is A LOT quieter than the DFP. You could almost hear me on the other side of the house (marble floors no carpeting so sound travels). The DFP motors are VERY noisey, the G25 is much quieter and smoother. So the noise you're hearing is Normal. You have to be VERY quick with the steering and throttle inputs in correcting over-steer. If you don't catch it quickly you end up snapping back and forth untill you loose it. You should check out some youtube videos of people drifting with 900* wheels to see how fast/crazy the wheel work can get. You can check out my youtube username is "snuffyboy3" . I have a few videos that show the wheel/screen etc. Practice and have fun.

Hey guys, thanks for the input. I've been practicing and I'm seeing just how fast you have to whip that wheel. I turned the feedback strength down so I could spin faster, but it makes normal grip driving less fun. And I'm still blowing at drifting.

BUT, I'm getting to the point where I can save myself from messes while grip racing. If the DFGT lasts me 1/2 way thru GT5 I'll be happy. Right now I have my wheel set up as ergonomically as possible with normal household firnuture (IKEA Jerker desk was born for the wheel.) If I don't trade my Z33 in for the new Z34, maybe I'll splurge and get a playseat rig or something. Then if/when I blow up the DFGT, I'll be ready for G25, or whatever is latest-greatest in 4 years when GT5 comes out :indiff:
