Driving Force GT - My Overall View

Hello everyone, I would just like to say how FUN IT IS TO USE A WHEEL. It gave me a whole new look on how driving in GT4 is. The standard controller was easy for me, but once I started using the wheel today, whoa was I surprised. The Force Feedback was set at "strong" by default, and every time I oversteered, it flew out of my hands!:dopey: Anyways, enough about how I love the Driving Force GT, here's what I'm trying to clear up

Yes, it CAN be used on a PS2. Even though the box clearly says PS3, if you ever get a chance to see this packaging, on the back near the bottom it will say " PS2 Compatible, PS3 Compatible, USB".

The instructions are so simple, I love looking at it. Its all pictures!:)
Like any other wheel, you simply just plug in the pedals and adapter, then plug it into your USB port on your PS2 or PS3, or whatever gaming system your on that has a USB port. Although I haven't tried it on a Xbox (which I don't have), I'm sure it can be used there.

For me, I am going to build a setup, I don't have all that much money left since I just bought this new wheel, so I'm going to make one out of wood. Seat, movable pedals and wheel, the whole thing.

So, My review for this wheel, even though it is my very first.

PROS - 900 degrees of steering - quite hard to do sharp turns, but fun
Pedals - The feel of the brake is very real, it adds all the realism you want. :sly: and the carpet grippers (like the G25) make it more stable
Real-Time adjustment knob - I don't have a PS3 currently, but I've seen other video reviews and they seem quite useful on Prologue
Force Feedback - The " real-er" the better!
Buttons - Placed nicely, the center and (square, triangle, etc) buttons light up
Price - Not too cheap, not too pricey, at a cost of 170$ (around the cost of the old Driving Force Pro) it is well worth a buy

CONS - Shift Knob - The problem is that it isn't placed very well, it is right beside the clamps and only put to the right
Clamps - If only Logitech didn't leave this important detail out, the plastic clamps have no grip at all on the table:indiff:, I would recommend putting some rubbers over the clamps and the base of the wheel to make the wheel grip more to the table.
Paddles - They are there, just to tell you, but the fact is that they are so small:yuck:, you don't really feel like your shifting, again, Logitech should have made them bigger, to a size like the ones on the G25.

Overall, I will say that this wheel is a recommended buy. The small problems aren't really something you want to fuss about. For a new or pro racer, this wheel, is a damn good alternative from the G25... :)

I like to drive wheel better, the first time i drove with wheel i cut down my times with about 1 second at tsukuba.

Ugh. This sounds absolutely wonderful. Too bad i can't justify spending any money on a good wheel. :guilty: :indiff: I bought a Mad Katz wheel for GT3 a couple years ago, and it sucked! I took it right back to the store, mattter of fact. I've always wanted to try a good wheel, tho.

I also have a DFGT. I've had a ton of fun with it. I can attest to the problems with the paddles. They should be "paddles" and not little buttons on the back of the wheel. If you use your DFGT on the PC, you're pretty much stuck using the shifter. The buttons (i.e "paddles") don't always register the shift. Very poor design choice in my opinion.

The pedals are the biggest drawback. They are better than the DFP pedals, as you do have different resistance for the brake. Yet, they still feel cheap, and they do not have enough resistance.

;)

I think, since they have made a mid-priced wheel , they should come out with a mid-priced racing set, Seat, Pedal positioner, wheel positioner, the whole thing. I'm out of money right now :( so I have to build my own from scratch.
