For others using a DS3:

I've been using the settings recommended by Terronium on p. 70 of his Renown Tuning thread:

Force Feedback Strength: 100%
Steering Deadzone: 3%
Steering Sensitivity: 40%
Accelerator Deadzone: 4%
Accelerator Sensitivity: 46%
Brake Deadzone: 4%
Braking Sensitivity: 50%
Clutch Deadzone: 2%
Clutch Sensitivity: 50%
Speed Sensitivity: 100%
Speed Sensitivity (Drift): 100%

I've seen recommendations on other forums that recommend using 5% for steering and throttle sensitivity. I tried that and I like Terronium's better, but maybe because that's what I'm used to now. I'd like to be able to turn more smoothly with less sliding using my analog stick, and I'm wondering if I can fine tune these settings to improve that.

What are other opinions?

I turned my speed sensitivity down to 90% after looking at the telemetry and seeing how much it was limiting corner entry speed. At speed at 100% it will barely turn the wheels 10% with the stick jammed to one side Im pretty aggressive on corner entries and it was just causing false understeer by not turning the wheels.

On the other hand, I had to turn sensitivity down to between 5 and 10 and adjust steering ratios to around 18-24 for most cars to allow for more high speed turning ability without it becoming too twitchy.

As far as throttle and brake, I can't really feel much difference between 0 and 100. There's a little, but my times aren't affected.

I've never understood what speed sensitivity does, can you explain? Also, I didn't understand your second paragraph. Did you turn steering sensitivity down to between 5 and 10? What do you mean by steering ratios?

Speed sensitivity limits how far the wheels turn based on speed. The faster you go, the less they'll turn. Set it to 0 and get on a track with a decent sized straight and crank the wheel... enjoy your crash. Set it to 100 and crank the wheel and marvel at how it doesn't really do much exciting.

If you turn on the telemetry to the second screen, there's a bar on the bottom left that shows how much the car is steering. At 100%, on any reasonable speed it barely moves, which was killing my feel on tracks with fast corners... like say the first corner on Brands hatch. I like to turn in hard and steer with the throttle a little, but at 100% I turn the wheel and go straight into the sand. At 90% it seems to turn enough for most corners without getting too twitchy. Anything much lower than that is wheel users only.

The sensitivity I have between 5 and 10. I can't really decide where I like it. I like it a little higher, like 30, but I can't put it that high and have the speed sensitivity I want. It's either too twitchy, or I can't turn enough at speed. 5 - 10 seems like a good comprimise. On some of the lesser machines I can put it up to 20 or so, but anything above C I like it below 10.

The steering ratios can be adjusted in the tuning screen. It's yet one other way to alter the sensitivity of turning. I usually have it between 18 and 24, but some cars and tracks dictate it be a little higher. It's something to adjust once you have the sensitivity and speed sensitivity to your liking. It can be saved by car and track so it's a nice way to fine tune your turning once you have a basic setup that you like.

👍

Thanks, i've learned a few things too.

Thanks for these. I bookmarked this and will try them when I get home, but with strideur's speed sensitivity, I seem to have the same problems regarding high speed cornering. I find the biggest problem to be on the Riveria circuit. The back end either slides out or it understeers straight into the wall.

I tried Strideur's settings last night and I just keep banging the walls! I've come to the conclusion that I drive best with the settings I'm accustomed to, which makes sense. Also, a lot depends on other upgrades and tuning settings, such as tires and suspension settings, of course.

But, I'd like to find the "right" controller settings or range using the analog stick for steering, and become accustomed to those. I'm not a great driver or tuner and I never will be, I just enjoy these racing games and want to make the driving as much fun as possible.

So, my quest is to determine the range of settings that will work best for me at all levels of the game. I'm currently driving D & C level cars, because I've restarted my career twice now trying to fix the bonus cash issue. I've found in other racing games (GT5) that I have a hard time controlling higher level cars.

So I'd like to hear if there is a consensus of opinions among drivers here on what the "best" sensitivity settings are for controller driving. Is it in the 5-10 range for steering or in the 40-50 range (Renown Tuning suggestion)? And why?
